My first metric build
« on: July 24, 2012, 10:04:27 PM »
So I'm new to the forum, but not scooters. I'm no professional, I just play one in my garage. After just over a two year hiatus from two wheelers, the bug has struck again. I blame a buddy of mine, but oh well. This will be my 3.5 build/resto of a motorcycle. Two Harleys, half way through a BSA chopper when someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse, and now an '81 CB 650. I bought the bike just over a month ago from a Hipster with big dreams. I have no idea what he paid for the bike but I got it for $320 minus a title (that worked in my favor and it was really easy to obtain a new title through the TN DMV). He had it torn down to the point that I had to put it back together just to roll it out of the garage, then load the four boxes of parts. My initial goal was to keep the budget at $1,000, I think I'll be just a tick over around $12-1,300. I'll post a link to my Photobucket account where you guys can see the photos so this post isn't pic heavy. Currently I'm in the assembly stage with hopes to be on the road soon. Well damn I cant post an external link.

Please feel free to add comments and what not.
Cheers

Well tonight was going well, until I dropped the gas tank off the work bench. I was trying to fill in a large dent in the right side with Bondo when I let it fall off the bench and now I have an equally sized dent in the top. Before you guys reprimand me for using Bondo, I'm just trying to get it to look decent and on the road. If I try to Bondo this dent I'll have close to 2 lbs of extra material in the tank. I'm a bit sick at the moment. If ANYONE has a good useable tank, or suggestions on a tank that will work, for this bike please let me know.
As for more pictures of past builds, sadly I only have one of the BSA. It was taken just a week after I picked it up. I sold it several months later to a guy that had heard about it through a friend of mine. I only had a 10' x 12' storage shed at the time and I had three motorcycles and a Honda scooter in there at the time. It's the ONLY bike I regret selling.
