Still a SOHC Honda but not a 4
« on: June 21, 2012, 04:07:53 AM »
I went to pick up my new bike today, which was actually an anniversary present from my amazing missus.  It is a CB200, I'm not sure on the year, I think it is a '75 which is what we were told, but I haven't checked the numbers yet.  It wasn't running when we picked it up, it had been sitting a couple of years, but I was very surprised how clean the tank is inside, not a sign of rust anywhere, I went to drain what was left of the fuel out of the tank and what came out surprised me a little, it was oil, anyway I drained the oil out of the tank and carbs, dropped the bowls, gave them a wipe out, put some fresh fuel in the tank, connected a battery via jumper leads, it wound for a couple over a couple times and fired up.  It ran ok on the choke but wouldn't run without it, so I figure I need to clean the carbs.  I'm just going to give it a quick tidy up and put it on the road.

Sweet machine!

My older brother bought one only a few months old back in the day.  He rode it for a year, then sold it to my mom, who still has it to this day!  :)  She's 78 now and doesn't really ride anymore, but Dad still rides it (along with 3 or 4 others) every now and again.

Great little bikes.  Keep the oil changed every 1000 miles or so, and you should be good to go forever!  :)

Here's my mom's, when it was with me a few years ago getting 'resurrected' from sitting a bit too long.

Your mums is definitely a little shinier than mine, the fella I bought mine from called me about an hour after I left his house and was pi$$ed that I had got it running already, reckons he should have charged me more.  I just love simple machinery, so damn easy to fix  ;D, thanks for the heads up on the oil changes.

Nice score  ;D  A great, basic commuter bike that will run for a long time and give economical service. Have fun with it...Larry
