tire tube question 750 k5
« on: June 24, 2012, 09:47:53 AM »
I was just about to put my tires on my bike.  The tire size is a 110-90-19 and the tube is a 2.75/3.00. Going by the conversion chart it lists that the tube should be 3.25 to 4.25. My question is should i use this tube or wait and get one than is .25 larger? What would it do? Do you think that .25 will make that much difference? The tire says its tubless btw. Thanx

Unless you changed wheel rim the 110 is too big.
Using too small a tube means it's stretched a lot further and be more likely to fail.
I wouldn't use either combination and I think your an idiot for following fashion rather than what will give best handling

Thanks for the 2 cents asshat. I actually entered the wrong size it is a 100/90-19. I am using the stock rim so take the "following fashion over function" comment and shove it you know where. Im doing a 90% stock reso here. And even if i was using a 110 who are you to call me an idiot. Suck it buddy.

Your welcome
I'm the guy that's been doing this stuff almost 45 yrs and I've seen a lot of dumb #$%*
I didn't say you are an idiot but it was my opinion.
If you have such a short fuse you probably are an idiot though

100 series is about max for the stock rim, little bit wide but not dangerously so

Hopefully this is up to your 45+ years of exp standards. I was sold the incorrect tube that is .25 off. The stock front tire size for a 750 k5 is a 3.25-19 wich converts to a 100-90-19. The Stock tire size, converted. Thanks for all your input. You have been a real help. Now if there is anyone else that would like to add a soloution rather than be a problem suggestions welcome.

Looks beautiful, I love Planet Blue. The tire can be used tubeless in mag wheels but a tube is needed in spoked wheels.

That tube may work but I would get the correct sized one.

Now can you guys kiss and make up?!

Stev-o, I don't have a problem, he asked, put in wrong number, I answered.
I don't think it's safe to use a too small 'width' tube except in an emergency, the tube will be stretched an so the rubber will be thinner.
In a tubeless tyre the friction can cause a problem (tubes can wear out because of friction with tyre casing as it flexes, tubeless tend to be 'rougher' internally than tubed)
I know 100mm is recommended as replacement for 3.25 tyre on CB750 but it is nearer 4.00 than 3.25 (25.4mm=1inch)
I haven't had a look at a CB750 for a few years but I'm pretty certain they have a WM2 rim which is only 1.85" where tyre beads sit
This may help

Your doing an expensive re-build, complain to the idiot who sold you wrong tube and get 3.50/4.00 tube
Put a dusting of talc in there when you fit tyre to rim, it helps things slide around

Personally, I'd use the correct size tube.  You might get away with it, but the price of a tube isn't that much.  In my riding career on (47 years, over 350,000 miles, and still know my manners, woo-hoo!) I've had 4 sudden flats at speed on the street, all on the front oddly enough.  It ain't much fun, though they all ended with me and the bike being upright.  It will be OK with me if I never have another one, so I do what I can to avoid it.

For what its worth, you don't sound like an idiot to me, so hope you stick with the forum. ;)
