73 500... Bogged down, now won't start...
« on: June 23, 2012, 09:32:40 AM »
Ran good, bogged down near the gas station... Still has gas in it, won't start unless I use full choke... Then sounds like ass and dies minute I remove choke.
Any ideas?

Check the contents of your float bowls for crap. You maybe have dirt in the fuel.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

If it's low then you may have sucked some crap in. Put more gas in so you don't use the reserve setting. Try and get home and clean that tank and carbs.

It was on reserve... But I'm still a dumbass, put gas in it and it was good to go.  Ran out of gas at a gas station (and I was trying to run it out of gas.. Gotta play with the petcock again and decided gas station was good because I needed to put some air in the tires anyway)
Not my brightest moment, but I had sloshed it around and thought I had plenty to get there and back... And had sloshed what was in it after it died and still thought I was good.
Live and learn.

I do not like running any motorcycle on reserve unless it is an emergency because
There can be dirt and moisture that has collected in the bottom of the tank.

Then you may end up cleaning the carbs.

Yeah, I really shouldn't... tank is not pristine and like you said... just asking for more carb issues.  I get this petcock issue sorted and never on reserve again.   ;)
