first time bike owner from CT
« on: June 20, 2012, 06:22:41 AM »
Hello!  I'm Chris from central Connecticut.  Just picked up my first bike ever to learn to ride on(actually I'm taking the beginner class next month so that will be where I'll mostly learn.)  I've been talking about getting a bike for a few years and a rented 50cc scooters for a day a few weeks ago and that was the nail in the coffin.  It's a 1982 650 Nighthawk purchased for a hefty $100.  I don't know anything about bikes or carbs but hopefully with this site and the Clymer manual given to me I'll get her running.  The bike has been sitting for about 12 years but looks to be in solid shape.  Something in the fuel system is currently gummed up.  fuel tank has some surface rust on the inside, broken speedo cable, needs tires, battery and any other maintenance that a bike sitting for 12 years will surely need.  I'm very excited about the project!

Welcome and nice to know that I am not the only one who is into those bikes.  Before you do anything make sure you clean out both your carbs and your tank as the ethanol causes a lot of problems.  If you are ever on the other side of the turnpike stop by and say hi.
