GL1000 front end swap, speedo drive issue
« on: June 26, 2012, 11:13:58 AM »
I have the front end from a GL1000 on my '78 750K, and I'm having a fitment issue.  I'm using my 750's front wheel, with GL1000 everything else.  I've done a lot of reading on here, but am I supposed to be using the speedo drive from the gold wing? I'm installing the front wheel right now and it is offset too far to the left side of the motorcycle.  Also, with the front axle, it looks like the threaded nut end is supposed to go on the side with the speedo drive.  Is that correct?

edit

did more searching, looks like I do need the goldwing speedo drive.  Assuming that the goldwing drive will not work with the 750's "drive plate" or whatever you call it?  I'm having an issue finding all the parts.

yeah, cb750 speedo drive needs to be modified to work with dual disc. you need the GL1000 speedo drive if you are using the GL1000 rotors.

I've done the same with my 750, used the goldwing speedo drive.
There are pictures floating around of a modified right side rotor mounting plate. It is machined on the side against the hub to capture the speedo tabs. So you have from left to right
Rotor
Hub
Speedo drive
Machined rotor mounting plate.
This allows you to use the original 750 speedo drive.
I'll see if I can find it.
Edit: Found it.

Thanks for the link there.  I found the speedo drive, cable, drive plate, and retainer plate for 30 bucks on ebay so I got that.
