We have one of those at work and I have used it for doing small hydraulic hoses... Shh, don't tell the boss, he told me not to do it 5 minutes before I did. ;D :-X

The one we have does work for small hydraulic hoses, but the dies we have don't go very big i.e. anything bigger than brake line size and you can forget about it.  I don't know the exact tonnage of the one we have, but it does have plenty of balls as far as crimping power.
