clutch issue on a 1978 CB750f
« on: June 28, 2012, 09:03:56 AM »
okay, the bike is new to me, only has 10000 miles on it, and runs great.  However the clutch lever has extreamly little freeplay on it, only like 2 to 3mm depending on where the handlebars are pointed, and it does engage very close to when the lever is fully let out.  I have tried all adjustments, the outer housing is set to as short as possible.  I have already reset the clutch adjustment under the cover on the motor as per the manual.
Wehn riding it does not feel as if it is slipping.  I would like some ideas.  I also ordered a new clutch cable just to make sure the one on it is not the wrong one.

for now I ended up removing one of the adjustment nuts from the cable where it goes in to the engine case, this gave me the extra slack and now it feels fine, we will see when I get my new cable

If the new cable doesn't work you may have a cracked clutch lifter plate. Easy to crack if the clutch plates aren't lined up PERFECT when installing. Don't ask me how I know.... 3 times.

Here is decent thread with a couple pics
