I keep wanting smaller bikes. My 400 should be small enough, but the other day a guy came by who was getting rid of some bikes. On his trailer was an RD60 in primo shape- he only wanted $300 ! I could almost feel a physical tugging toward it. But I have no room in my garage! There's an early '70s CB100 owned by a little old man who bought it new. We're putting on new tires (it had the originals), new battery, etc. I could almost name my own price. Am I going crazy? What's my problem? Why can't I be happy with what I have? 6 bikes already, and you guys wouldn't believe I survive on what I make. Am I trying to compensate for something by wanting a SMALL bike ?!

Hey, small bikes are great, too. Even though I totally love the SOHC4s, I have a little thing for the small Honda singles and twins. Every type of bike is a new adventure waiting to happen.

I just rode my '81 CB125S on a 25 mile round trip to work and back. Sometimes I think it is the funnest bike I own.

Smaller is better......Why bother with a 200 horsepower Yamaha M1 when you can ride this!

I LOVE dimunitive-engined machines!!!!

My 400 feels like a ROCKET to me and I want SMALLER Hondas.

I'm also an RPM FIEND and I read about a Honda that was built some years ago, I recall it was a 250 4-cylinder that revved to over 20,000 RPM!!! I WANT THAT BIKE!!!!!! I want a 20K+ RPM bike with itty-bitty pistons.

The 6-cylinder 250 RC166 is awesome, but I also want the 125cc 5-cylinder.

I am currently rebuilding a CT-70 and I want a 350/4, 350 Twin, CB175, 250 and other tiny bikes.

Gordon, you had me chuckling to myself all day at work.

I think I'm going to get that stinker, if he still has it. A 60cc 2-stroke must be about equal to a 100cc 4-stroke, plus the RD is cooler. I don't think I'll be able to use it on the freeway, but there are back roads everywhere around here. I've never even been on a 2-stroke before. Maybe I'll get it out of my system.

2 strokes kick butt! Nothing like it really. You have good grunt from some really small engines! plus you get to mess with gas/oil mixes unless you are lucky to have a bike which premixes for you!

i had an RD 350 yamaha (2stroke) and have a cb 550 k (4 stroke) both 50 hp the rd would run circles arround my 550 it would pull the front wheel off the ground in 4th gear (and it had 7 bty) my 55o wont do it in first

I have a Ktm 300 two stroke, with the fmf pipe, rejetted 1/4 turn throttle, and some engine and suspension work done to it. It is an absolute terror (in a fun way) to ride. When you screw it all on, it actually feels like it's been cleared for take off! Acceleration? Instantaneous. But the most fun I have is on my big wheel 80!

...which is why you get the small ones. I have a '64 Honda C110 (50cc) that sits on a work bench in the barn because "there's no room for it".

Here we go .

My 73gt380 k Suzuki (picture now in my avatar) 3 cylinder two stroke.
Just did a complete ground up rebuild last may.1ST over bore with all Suzuki nos parts,piston ,pins wristpins etc, crank rebuilt.new oil seals,040 shaved off the head.pod filters, bassanni chambers.boyer bransen electronic ignition,530 rk chain 42 rear jt sprocket,tapered steering head bearings.bronze swingarm bushings,Gs 450 front fender, gel cell battery, new paint,tires,nos seat,petcock gas cap.I am sure i left out a bunch more parts i have replaced.Along with my savings that needs to be replaced.Oh yeah replaced shocks.fork seals.etc etc.you get the idea.

It was worth it.Sounds great and is a blast to ride.

I'm really suprised (not really $:-\$ ) that an article on "Small Bikes" considers a 650cc machine "small". I guess people's perception of "small" has changed because my 400 used to be a "middleweight" and the 750 a "heavy".

My personal scale is:

200 or smaller: Micro

250 to 400: Small

450 to 750: Midweight

Above 750: Heavy

Above 1000: Super-Heavy

("Heavy" and such are not so much based on the weight of the machine, as Litre sportbikes weigh only a few pounds more than my featherweight 400F, but merely to engine displacement.)

I am still kinda shocked that a 650 is considered "light"

it is because ofthe big bike craze going on right now. People seem to have this idea that a 750 just cant do it and they need a 1300 or some thing bigger. Funny how a 750 could be packked for full touring with fairing and bags and 2 people. Maybe it is because so many people these days have bigger asses than they used to and need the extra power....but I doubt it. I think it has more to do with many people, guys mainly, thinking they need to have a large bike to be a man. Maybe you do need all that power to haul around all that chrome?

I still recall once long ago, when I pulled into a lot and parked my 600cc BMW. A man brought his son over and whispered reverently, "Now there's a big-un."

BTW- that was when Competition Accessories was a local dealer in OHIO.

Since finishing the restoration of my wifes 72CL 350 I find myself getting on it about 1/2 the time I do the 750 for around the Island ridding.

I dont understand why some people just look down on smaller bikes. I mean, there is no big bike out there that can corner like a 400. Sure they may be faster going straight, but you cant always go straight!

Well, we're almost finished restoring the CL175,
I ride my CB550 almost exclusively, but for longer rides
I think I will go back to the cb750's.

The seats on my smaller bikes just aren't "right" for long rides.
