Motorcyclist names CB750 Motorcycle of the Century
« on: June 29, 2012, 10:14:17 AM »
Hey guys,

I used to the be the Publisher of Motorcyclist but left in January for a new endeavour.  2012 is, amazingly the 100th anniversary of Motorcyclist magazine. It was the only US magazine to survive the Great Depression and is the oldest continually published motorcycle magazine in the world.  There was a party to celebrate the anniversary last night and I'm happy to report that they named the CB750 the Motorcycle of the Century.  It was a cool event. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/features/122_1209_2012_motorcycle_of_the_century_1969_honda_cb750/. Ray Blank of American Honda got up and said some great words about the importance and impact of the CB750, mentioning that the success of the K0 provided much needed revenue and technology to move forward and succeed with the Civic, Accord, etc.  Great event.

Marty

PS  I have a '74 750K4 that will be back on the road in a few months.  Rode my '74 H2 to the event and it stranded me on the way home late at night! Countershaft sprocket bolt backed out.  :-)

Marty,

Welcome to our party! Where you been?!

Someone needs to remind Ray that they need to license companies to make the parts that Honda won't. We're glad to pay the prices necessary to get genuine parts.

Looking forward to seeing your bike on here. Be careful on that H2 when you get it going! We'd even like to see a picture of it too  ;)

As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I'll have pics of the K4 soon. Here's a story I wrote about the H2, which has family history and is very near and dear to me.

Thanks for the link Marty, and welcome! I used to devour every page of Motorcyclist in late 70's early 80's during high school. Freidman, Vreeke, Karr, Cox et. al. Great writing, and great reviews, I still have a bunch of them. Can't make myself throw them out. :)

Eric,

Friedman, Vreeke, Cox, Karr, Boehm and others were all there.  Even Dave Ekins (Bud's brother) who an editor in the 70's.  I've got a bunch of old magazines too...must admit that from the 70's, Cycle did an amazing job.

Cycle was great in the 70's, and Cycle World was great in the late 70's early 80's. I liked Cycle Guide as well.

My H2 story goes......Bought a low mileage, original, powder blue 1972 H2 in '85, then proceeded to hack it apart to make a drag bike.  :-[
