Check valve leak
« on: June 19, 2006, 08:36:30 PM »
How critical is this... if the oil drains into the engine when parked for several days?
It happened once right after oil change, I thought the oil filter had taken the level down but after running it, the level was normal again.
What can happen if this is let go ie ignored?

Not very much,

when you start the bike, the oil pump will pump the oil back to the oil tank for normal use.., it's not a hard part to change, drain the oil, drop the sump, remove the cover from the end of the pump, remove the spring, replace the check valve, if they are available, then reassemble.

Otherwise, when you check your oil level, make sure the motor has been running for a few minutes, then check the oil before it has a chance to slide back into the sump through the check valve. :)

True, it's not hard to change, however I've heard it is hard finding a new check valve. I remember Bob Wessner just went through this and I think he posted where he was finally able to locate a new one.

I did, but not directly. A member was good enough to get it for me. I believe, but am not certian it might have been through WesternHills??

Edit: Checked through my saved eMails and it did originally come from WesternHills, try them. It is the rubber tip that fits at the end of the valve.

Err, another edit: checked an earlier eMail and these recent orders of the check valve seal might have been the last they had in stock. It might be worth contacting them though, perhaps a few more turned up. Good luck, hope you locate one.
