Leather Tank Cover - CB400f
« on: July 27, 2012, 11:06:41 AM »
I was going through a stash of stuff I had yesterday, and discovered something I hadn't ever noticed before. I came across what appears to be (although I didn't look at it that closely), a leather tank cover for a CB400f. See pics below...

I didn't actually properly fit it on yesterday, but I placed it on the tank so you can see what it looks like. It has the Honda lettering on both sides which matches the lettering that is stenciled on the back of the seat.

Was this a factory thing? If so, I've never seen another before.

It almost looks like a service cover except for the hole for the gas cap

Hmm that is odd,I also have never seen anything like that for any Honda. Wonder if it could have been used in a dealership shop to protect while working on a bike or just some kind of a custom mod from back in the day. Post up if you find out anything on that mystery.

Leather tank covers have been around for years. Targa and Lockhart, to name a couple, made them.

Yep - they were a rage back in mid 70's and I bought and fitted one to my Yamahaha RD350 back in 1976. Looked stupid - with hindsight. But protected against scratches, sunburn and minor bump damage.

Saw a naked Goldwing with leather tank and fender covers-it was very impressive 8).  Any interest in selling?  If so, pm me...Larry
