Andy Griffith Dies
« on: July 03, 2012, 05:47:18 PM »
Didn't know him and had never met Andy Griffith, but I felt like I knew him. I was born and raised in North Carolina just like him and have watched each episode of the black and white Andy Griffith Shows more times than I could possibly count. What a great show with great characters, Andy, Barney, Aunt Bea, Gomer, Goober, Otis, Opie,  Floyd and many more. Just about all the main stars of the show have past away now and it's hard to believe the show first aired 52 years ago in 1960. R.I.P Andy and thanks for the laughs.

Yup, huge but underrated legacy. In 1996 he had a gospel album went platinum!  Love those kind of guys.  :'(

He made me want to live in Mayberry.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

I recall seeing the very first episode, (re-runs about 10 years ago ::)) when Aunt Bea first came to live with Andy and Opie. Barney was introduced as Andy's cousin. In later episodes, they were friends.

He made me want to live in Mayberry.
For many years Andy denied the show was based on his childhood town, but later in life he admitted  that a lot of the show was took from his life growing up in Mt Airy,NC. Several weeks ago I went through Mt Airy on my K6 on the way to the Blue Ridge Parkway and even rode by the house he grew up in.
