Airbox boots dont line up with carbs 750K8
« on: July 16, 2012, 06:13:39 PM »
I can get my airbox onto my carbs but when I try to bolt the airbox in place to the two tabs on the frame it puts it too high.  Are my carbs just droopy or am I missing something?

Just tilt the carbs up .  Make the air box and carbs line up.

Loosen the screws on the air box a little to get all of the parts to line up.

Ok, wasnt sure if I was missing something.  I think the carbs have been without an airbox for a while and sag a bit.  I will see if I can get them on the box and then try to bolt the box without the carbs pulling out.

I find it's easier to have the airbox split in two first.

Attach the upper half of the airbox to the back of the carbs, tighten the clamping bands and then bolt on the bottom half. At this point you can attach the airbox to the frame.

One other thing I'd check for, is whether or not there's index marks on the airbox. I know on my 350F, the marks on the boots have to line up with the index marks on the airbox.

Although you have different model carbs to the post I'm sending you to, it might be the answer to your dilemma.
See if it makes sense after you've read thru.

Hey xnoahx,
you can leave your airbox in 1 piece, just remove the 2 screws that mount it to the frame tabs so the airbox is free to move. get your boots on first, and on tight with the clamps, THEN, raise the airbox to the mounts and secure it there.

+1 to what Flybox said, I always bolt the air box down last.

Steps I take:
1) Attach carbs to engine rubbers.
2) Tighten engine rubber clamps all the way.
3) Hook up fuel, throttle, etc.
4) Squeeze in the air box into that ridiculously tight space.
5) Push the rubber stacks onto the carb inlets as much as possible.  Some people use a piece of wood or something to put behind the air box to keep pressure.  I haven't had to do this.
6) Tighten both outer clamps then the inner clamps.  This seems to help it from slipping off from one side.
7) Attach air box to the frame.  I usually need a buddy to help with this by pushing up onto the airbox while I slide the bolt into the tabs.

By the way... GREAT USER PICTURE!  I guess you are a fan of my favorite cartoon as well.
