I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

about the head butt.  the one that dropped that guy like a "bag of #$%*."  I couldn't care less about it.  Its a minor act of rage in a sport they don't televise in my country.  But for some reason both my Fox News and my NPR were telling me about it.  Funny thing is Fox News told me that the italian had insulted the frenchman's mother (or something) and the irrational frenchmen went off the handle and tried to see inside him.  On the same day my NPR was all "guess what happened in soccer today" which even they don't do that often, saying it more like "the french guy is a muslim and he also speaks italian, and when the italian caled him a scumbag terrorist (or something) he reacted violently.  He has had a long career and has always been a model of restraint and this was an example of racial hate bashing."  Even feel like your being lied to?  by both sides?  I know somethings up when the american press starts covering soccer.
i guess i felt like pointing that out

"He has had a long career and has always been a model of restraint and this was an example of racial hate bashing."

I find that absolutely HILARIOUS. The press is so out there in their coverage, do a little research! Zizou (the guys nickname) STOMPED on a guy with his cleat while the player was on the ground during a past WC (98' I think?). One example of many infractions he has committed... The guy is a borderline criminal.

Dont get me wrong though - I love the guy and think he is brilliant in soccer. I just wouldnt ever call him a model of restraint, or let him near my children.

ZZ is NOT a model of restraint if you have followed his career at all,
but he is a good player.

No one ever proved to me that you had to be intelligent or a kind
person to play sports, merely had to know how to move your body
and know the rules. Of'times analyists say, "What a smart play..." etc
but this is not usually the case.

That said, I still think the Italians did not deserve to be in the final.
Australia should have been there.
peace,
michel

I couldn't disagree more. 'Intelligence' and 'genius' comes in many forms, and does not only apply to astrophysics. Being able to walk onto a soccer pitch and virtually control the match with your physical ability, foresight and creativity is an intelligence all its own and the guy doesn't even need to be literate to perform it. Go figure.

By the way, ZZ is not only a good player but the best since Maradonna. Still he should not be pointing the finger back at Materazzi for his insults. Insults are part of any sport, take it or leave it. You have to take responsibility for your own conduct on the field.

Cheersh

ZZ’s actions won’t even match up with Rooney’s when he meets Rolando in the locker room…I’d pay to watch that one …the sardine muncher  will know all about it. ZZ was just a frog getting some extra money now he's retired again  ;D or he would have give it right between the eye's  ;)

Bollocks Rooney  was the best potential goal scorer in the tournament for England the coach never played the games that way, he got frustrated and sent off plus his club mate tweeked him.........he’s from my town and he’s not a bright person your right, but he can score goals given the chance.and he never got the chance bloody Swede's  ;D  8)

I'm not a fountain of knowledge about football but IMHO Rooney is probably the least likely player to dive. He was running with 3 guy's on him and he kept on running and got through them - Ok so he ended up stamping on a guy but most other players would probably have gone to ground screaming how hurt they were way before that!

Anyway it's over now thank god. Next subject please??

I only started this thread to see if we could get up there with the Ashes thread (216? replies)

Given that football has a global audience of billions, I'm a little dissappointed. OK the World Cup only lasted 3 weeks while the cricket lasts forever...

Oh well, the Ashes are back in November...

Ha ha, "you wish" mate! Still, I don't mind the royals, they're harmless, I just wish they hadn't murdered ol' Dianna, I met her once, and (for a pommy sheila) she was almost hot! Cheers, Terry. ;D

"The boys" went to school in Wokingham (where I live) and we used to see her most mornings in her soft-top Audi.
