;D Oh that guy in the black shirt was a referee???? :-\  I could have sworn he was a stand-up comedian.
Portugal deserved a win to be honest. They've been playing better the whole tournament.

Cant't talk about it.................... too emotional..................  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I think the world soccer establishment might have gotten their collective noses out of joint because the Aussie "interlopers" had the gall to not only qualify, but do surprisingly well, all things considered.

I'm not suggesting that we were treated unfairly or even unethically, but I was surprised and disappointed with the decision that allowed the Italy team to score the only goal and win. Notwithstanding, Congratulations to Italy!

Anyway, the result is that we are all justifiably proud of our team, and this attempt has really raised the profile of this little known game in Oz, and has raised Australia's profile in the eyes of the soccer world.

To any "Doubting Thomases" out there, (not mentioning any names, Biffy.....) we will be back next world cup, and we will use the next four years to learn from this experience and further improve our skills. It didn't take Oz alll that long to dominate in the world of cricket, so if history repeats itself (as it usually does) it won't be long before the rest of the soccer world sees us as a serious threat, and not just a fleeting novelty. Cheers, Terry. ;D

the "offside rule" explained for women:

You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop
assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which
you must have.

The female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing them
with desire. Both of you have forgotten your purses.

It would be rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money
to pay for the shoes.

The shop assistant remains at the till waiting.

Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop
and sees your dilemma.

She prepares to throw her purse to you.

If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other
shopper and buy the shoes!

At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and
"whilst it is in flight" you could nip around the other shopper, catch
the purse and buy the shoes!

BUT, you must always remember that until the purse has "actually been
thrown", it would be plain wrong for you to be in front of the other
shopper and you would be OFFSIDE!

Terry, as an ex-ref, I hate to admit that your team was robbed. They might have been beaten in extra time or even lost on penalties but that was one god-awful decision. Typically the Italian got full marks for style in what was a blatant dive. Still whoever wins will only do it with all the luck. No matter how good you are, you need luck on your side. Now back to bikes. cheers, John.

I watched the first half of the Ukraine /Swiss match last night. I don't know much about football but both teams looked truly awful, the passing was terrible and there was only a couple of moments of professionalism. I got bored and turned it off.

GO GHANA!!!!

I watched the whole match (only coz I got Switzerland in the sweepstake...)

It was dull.

Even the penalties were dull.

As for the Italians, all I can say is "Go Ukraine!"

we have an ad here in which there's a football team on a training field. The coach blows a whistle and they all fall to the floor grabbing their knees and howling. Awards for best actor...

I haven't seen that one (you are in the UK aren't you?)

I must admit that the ITV coverage REALLY irritates me as at half-time you get about 2 minutes of prattle and 13 minutes of ads  >:(

At least on the BBC you get Gary Linaker (and Ian Wright is almost worth the license fee alone...)

I am in the UK. I think it was an ad. I definately saw it on TV - but perhaps it was a sketch show.... ???

I hated the ITV commentary of the England vs Sweden match. After England scored the first goal they were going on about how England were going to win the game for the first time in years etc etc.... I was screaming at the screen telling them to shut up as it wasn't even half time yet. They say some STOOPID things sometimes..!

I remember in the friendly against Brazil a couple of weeks ago they were going on about how England were on the way to victory and just at that moment the Ronaldinho scored and we eventually lost... typical. Perhaps it's best to turn the sound off and listen to 5 live instead?!
