my guitar almost died in a hit and stop accident.
« on: July 03, 2012, 01:30:08 PM »
I got home from my guitar lesson and the next door neighbor called me over to look at his boat trailer bearings. I leaned my guitar case against the outside of the garage door trim. That way it wouldn't be under the door. While we were looking at the bearings his wife came home, cut it close pulling in and knocked the guitar into the garage!!!! I got her to stop inches from running over it with the back tire. I still don't know how she hit the case and not the door trim. Jeez.
Shame on me for leaving it there.
Moral of the story, you never know what small decision you make could end in disaster.

yipes... I recently bought myself a guitar. First time I actually picked out the one I wanted. No pun intended but appropriate as I played every guitar in the room :). Very special for me.... after playing cheap hand-me-downs for 30 years!
Anyway I bought an uncheap but super BOMBER Road Warrior case for it! It'd probably stop the car like a wheel chock.
Heh heh... The things my old ones have been through and what they look like now lol.
Now I set the new one down as carefully and strategically as riding in Friday rush hour traffic.
Nothing fancy but the best one I've ever had!
It's a Yamaha :)

P.S. I may have been playing now for 31 years... but I haven't really improved much for the last 25... Still enjoy it though.

If your a true guitar player you would never leave it in the path of danger.
Was the guitar acoustic or electric.....can you sing do you wright songs.
Do you feel that you can make enough to provide for a family or are you smart enough to realise its just a hobby.
 Guitars get run over everyday.

I was looking at the descriptions of Les Paul's guitars as his instruments and recording gear were sold at auction about 6 weeks ago. More than a few of his guitars had neck repairs. Accidents happen, glad yours wasn't a big deal!

It's a  electric, Les Paul with a Les Trem. but not a Gibson. I never picked up a guitar until I was 57. Two years and two double hand surgerys, I'm still taking lessons. Defenitely a slow learner but my hands are getting better. I can reach more frets than before. I don't sing or write but like guitar instrumentals and surf music. I'm working on Dick Dales Nitro. Not easy but I like it.
Music kicked my butt in school so I had unfinished business.
And yes, I really thought it was a safe place to leave it, I didn't want to take it into the garage. The point was, how wrong you can be.

Don R,there is some amazing equipment to be had on the cheap these days.
I have been playing since 1977 and I have to say I have never seen great equipment at the low prices we have today.
What are your goals? I can show you  things that you may not know about.I also need to know how much you want to spend.
Would you like to record yourself with bass and drums in stereo as a background?

All that can be done on a computer quite easily these days... You have to love the Les Paul shape Don, i have 8 of them, the best sounding rock guitar ever built...

I'm still pretty sucky. I got a G-DEC3 30 watt amp, it has all the trick electronics but I don't use much yet. Surf music is my favorite style, any guitar instrumental intrests me. There are some pretty basic chords my old hands don't want to play but I'm getting better, that's what keeps me going. I'd really like to get a surf green 62 re-issue strat, but I feel like I need to earn it first. There are lot of hybrids being built with parts from strats, jaguars, jazzmasters and mustangs. Interesting.
They say a Les isn't really a good surf guitar, I don't care, I like the sound of mine.

If you want tinny sound o' surf, you need a single coil skinny pick up, (or a whole bunch of EQ,  ;D )  Les Pauls, unmodified) don't do that well unless you get the Les Paul recording.  I still have a demo vinyl that demonstrates the incredible range of sound it produce.
I found it on Youtube, but it is pretty warble-y.  But, if you can mentally filter out the vibrato/tremelo in the poor reproduction:
Circa 1972 Gibson Les Paul Recorder & Triumph Bass Demo Record

Here's a better recording of the demo vinyl:
http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/gibson/catalogues/1971_low_impedence_index.php

With the requisite ton of reverb, the Les Paul recording can sound just like Dick Dale's, the Venture's, Beachboy's, or any of the "surf" guitars.  I can't make any of my other Les Pauls do that without VG modeling processors.

My current favorite. Skynyrd and an Elvis song.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Heartbreak Hotel {acoustic}

not surf or an instrumental but the guitar is awesome.
