Looking for a particular color green
« on: June 20, 2006, 12:11:42 PM »
I've been searching for an example of a particular color green, very dark, glossy, used on one or more vintage motorcycles. The best way I can describe it is either black with some green in it, or green with a good deal of black. Sometimes accompanied with gold pin-striping. I know I have seen it, but can't locate an example so I can't be sure if it was an early British or U.S. vintage machine. I'm leaning toward British if my memory serves me. Thanks if you can think of an example, or even the color name.

prsman,

The mini with the British racing green is close, thanks. It's hard to judge color on a monitor, maybe a little more black, that's the direction for sure. I guess I'll keep trying to find the vintage bike I've seen it on, just about wearing Google out though.  ;D

It's not bikes, but Lexus made a black/green a couple of years ago.  I thought it was all gloss black until I walked around it and saw a deep jade green coming out.  Spectacular look.

csendker,

Your description of the Lexus sounds like what I'm looking for, from a distance, or in the shade it might well look black. Thanks all for the leads.

My friend just painted his '71 Riviera that color.  Black at night, real dark green in daylight.  Looks so killer.  I will get the numbers from him if i can (he remembers.) Definately what you are looking for.

Hi Bob, go to a specialist paint shop. They will have about 3 thousand cards with different colours on. You will get a match there for sure.

Bob: Check 1991 Mazda Miata Special Edition British Racing Green. Don't have the code handy. Darker than later Miata green.

Bob-

I couldn't figure out which Lexus paint code it was, I guess you need the sticker on the car for that.  But, I did find a place that has the Lexus paint codes blown up color by color; layer by layer.  Soooooo, if you do ever figure out which one it is....

And it was clublexus.com or something like that.

My buddy is a paint guy on the side and has all the paint codes...he did mine Dodge Dakota Green or something like that...had a bunch more darker ones but didn't want to go that dark for me personally...I will ask him for some examples of some really dark ones and perhaps it will work if I scan the paint card on to my PC and then emeail it...not sure how it would translate though...but worth a shot.

That was always an option I guess, was just hoping to see an example on a bike somewhere to see if I remembered it.

Hey Bob,
Look at the dark green in my Tank in my Avatar...It's dark green (darker than my instuments) with tiny metalflake and fine gold pinstriping, and clearcoat. If it looks right, I'll be seeing my painter next week, and I can find out what color it is. He lives in Kalkaska.

Hey Bob, finally got a chance to get to my buddy's and go thru his paint chips...he only has domestic vehicle selections but the darkest green I could find was Mazda's Grace Green which I believe somebody already brought up as being the colour used on the Miata's...I do have the paint code if you need it but I would suspect you are looking for something darker...I tried to scan but you can't really see the colour very well...

Thanks for trying Dennis, appreciate it. I did find a 1930 Bentley with a fairly close match to what I'm after. I just wanted to see it again on a vintage vehicle (preferably a bike). I think when I need it, I'll just go to an auto paint place and check out the chips.

Hey Bob, I finally did a copy shot off a print so you could actually see the color of my paint (had a BAD drive crash and lost all my files! Live and learn!) I'm photographing for my painter tomorow up in Kalkaska. I'll see if he remembers the color. It's dark green with tiny metalflake and fine gold pin striping.

Chris,

Nice color green there, pretty close. Not sure about the fine gold flake, but maybe. Thanks.

Ok Bob,
I shot for my painter (see attachment) and asked him about my color. It's candy green over PURPLE! Go figure. I have no idea how that stuff works. Anyway, he comes up with some pretty crazy colors. Here's a '54 Chevy custom that I shot for a magazine....Oh, I too shoot bikes...just not for free (Well, maybe for some of you guys!)!

Stick with a Honda colour - surely there must be paint available for the GB500.  Only colour it came in was the black/green you're looking for, and even had gold striping!  Surprised nobody mentioned it (if someone did, I apologize  ;))
