Had to go into the bad city yesterday   ::) and was randomly walking down a street and come across a good old fashioned speed shop, couldnt resist,  went in for a look at all the car stuff and monkey see monkey buy thing happened. Came out with a few goodies,   I dont really need them but a pair of wire twisters and stainless wire, for the axle and sump bolts, some heat cover for the fuel lines,  a longacre  good electrical ignition switch with an oil light adapter,( so Peter doesnt have to look at numbers just red light or go)  and also some tyre softener.  why the tyre softener you ask ?
I like the Longacre products. DEi is good stuff too. Make sure those rubber manifolds don't leak big guy. ;) ;D

Just cleaned out the oil return holes to optimise them.

I trimmed the gear selector cover for less windage and more easier access to the sprockets.  just hit it with yellow just to see what a yellow crankcase might look like. ???

Was reading on a thread somewhere that its easy to get confused with sprocket ratio's and they suggested colour coded sprockets to make life fool proof........if thats possible ..............so paint I did, so far 17 and 18 teeth 320 chain

Lot of height under the bike , I wonder if I drop the rear shocks to 2 inch shorter ? what it would do to trail

Not sure it is clear or dark enough but I jumped on CAD to see whar 2 inch shorter shocks would do,  the result is nearly 2 degrees rake and 10mm more trail, still plenty of room under the bike so I ordered the shocks from cycle x ebay

just in case you blokes think I have been a bit slow I have just finished last weekend doing an engine swap and reconditioning the new motor for my son, the bike was my dads who left it to Matt when he passed away. The engine was shot and was the cause of the drama, dad was early 70's still riding hard when the cam bolt came loose and jammed up the top end , locked the motor up and spat down the road.  I bought the bike home for Matt but it sat around for a couple of years until I had the inclination to do the job, so Matt bought an old 83 engine and I went over it , bottom end , rings,  tidy the ports and valvegrind etc
Anyway it took me more time than I thought but is now finished and running well. I had to do it so I could concentrate on my Honda

All finished with plastic back on. Its a 1985 yammy XJ 900 with  a 1983 transplanted engine in, Matts smiling as it took him about 2 years to get me to do it, now I'm in the dog house with the missus for getting him on a big bike , bloke cant win either way  ::) ;D ;D ;D

It will give you more trail which is fine.... ;)

johno where did you find the 520 sprockets with the 530 center width? I bought some from JT a few years ago and haven't had luck finding them again.

Snows heading your way I believe, so you will have the whole winter to calmly get them from Cycle X. They do 520 sprockets and kits, also offset.
I tried JT for rear 520 but they couldnt do it and referred me to another engineering firm in England

Thats a nice looking arm. the back axle width is OK and the front pivot is pretty close, it has some room to machine off in needed, the 3 inch over is good as the Suzuki std is approx 2.5 inchs longer than the honda and if the arm is 3 inch over then that is a total of 5.5 inchs more than Honda , the salt regs say 10% more wheel base max so approx 5.5inchs. allowed, would be good piece.

I purchased a suzy GSX F 600 back end complete on ebay last week and its on its way. I would have made an offer, what do you reckon it is worth $750 ??????????

Johno..............that's a nice looking swingarm........BUT.......be careful of the distance from the U-brace to the axle.  I don't think an 18-inch wheel with an 80 or 90 profile tire will fit.

I'm trying something similar.........so far 4 alloy boxed swingarms were dismissed............but I have another dozen or so to try. My builder has a bike grave-yard..........lots of metal items sticking out of the snowbanks.

Thanks for the tip,
At this stage I am looking at a couple of rear options. 3 setups,  light and high 18 ", medium height 18"and dumped Low 17",  and will be taking all 3 , what ever turns pete on he can use.
I cant wait to find out what the go is and focus on improving that rather than making up general setups.
The more I talk to people the ol confidence takes a few hits and that leads to trying several options.

Been setting some time frames to make the cut and I have been covering a bit of ground lately and should be starting the final engine build  on Jan 1st finished mid Jan, then frame finished end of Jan, Dyno engine first week Feb and do some road testing somewhere in the middle of nowhere mid Feb ready for the last week of Feb......its a plan anyway. ::) ::) ::) ;D

I have been taking some pics but my photo bucket link is stuffed for the second time in two years and cant post anything,   hopefully they can sort things out for me. ::)

That's a plan.............hopefully successful :)

I'm in the same bucket ;D but happy to spend more time on the planning and gathering of parts then doing the www-thing.

My wife informs me she won't mind if I spend a lot of time on bikes the last two weeks of the year.............but I will be 2500 miles away from home......so only on the internet.

BTW.........'83 Suzuki GS750E swingarms are a close fit but need to be spread at the rear.

Got my pistons back from HPC couple of weeks ago, skirts baked moly and tops ceramic.
might need this if the weather is hot.
