Stitched up the bottom end tonight.
everything turns, got 5 gears, the new 5th locks in OK, I managed to get some adjustment into the teflon primary tensioner, I set it up to get about 1.5 turns of free play on the adjuster bolt.

Tiny, do me a favour and put your link into my thread, u know the hornbag idle surge, turns me on baby, I want the other forum blokes to hear music from an old miner.
ciao johno

That is looking sweet...............salt-blasting will be nil.....................but be sure to rinse everything before you return. I carry a sprayer to water-rinse in the pits.  Also, remove the chain immediately after your last run and soak in ATF or WD40 in a closed container on the trip home...................or prepare to have a very rusty and stiff stretch of links hanging in the shop as a conversation piece.

Thanks Sam, it's still the source of my nightmares (tuning)

One interesting advantage (so long as the conrods agree)in choosing cams with zero overlap this time 'round, the boost has risen from 8/10 psi,,to 15 psi  :o
The hunt @ idle has been tuned out, sorry Johnno, but if you bribe me with a can, saltside, I'll fiddle with the air screw to get it back for you.

Tiny,
have you got those needles sorted yet ?

Dont stress over them if you cant get them, in the old days on the dyno it was standard practice on the holden 6's with strombergs or SU's to fatten the fuel curve up mid range by dropping out the needles , mark with texta the 1/4 , 1/2 , 3/4 spots and pop in a drill then wet and dry the appropriate spot,  just give them a tickle , couple of thou at a time put on and check AF ratio on the rollers again. 8)

Now you have the F18 dash console you could do the same out the road dodging a few roos  ;D

I don't know Johnno, my lambda died  :o
But,,after finding a gum tree flower cone nestling against the fuel filter , and resetting the automatic float level  ??? back to where it was 3 checks back, the hunt & ear bleeds have returned  ;D
I will have to wait another week for the new O2 sniffer to arrive, or the 43 degree days, which ever happens 1st, to test ride (private road, of course)
Just to keep the dream alive, here's a sneaky clip at moderate throttle, shortshifting while worrying about the 02 readings,,,,

Tell you what Tiny , that sounds sharp, seriously did you hear the pitch change just before you changed gear, thats a great indicator.  Bet you cant wait to be confident in the mixtures, hang in there,  get them right , it will be worth it.
cheers johno

You wouldnt read about it, I stitched up the bottom end last week, walla the heavy duty primary drive rubbers arrived today from M3....bummer, I hope the stocky hangs in there for a few dyno pulls and a few runs on the salt, should be OK, no dumping the clutch

positive thing is 100% of suppliers come through with the goods

I promised Mike to do two things , get the compression ratio right and to make  sure the piston misses the head so I had better do the right thing and do a few checks.   cc ing the chambers

That man is anal about perfection fair dinkum.

Every chamber is 22.5 cc    not 22.4 or 22.6  all 22.5cc      cool stuff Mike.

Well I only post good news normally but not tonight, :'( :-[ ???

The two things I enjoy about building a motor is putting the rings in and dialling in the cam, normally makes me warm and fuzzy.  First time in my life I trashed a ring, worst thing, it was in my engine.

Man those two ring JE 62mm pistons are super dupa thin and fragile, I was cautious but not enough obviously.
The 3 piece oil rings are so small I had trouble being able to se the expander ends to check, evan with big magnifying glass,   its a bummer getting old, this IS a sign ::)

I ordered a spare set tonight and if I can get then in 6 or 7 days I can still get it finished but will be like Dennis finish doing the tappets on the salt lake type scenario............ not good as there are a few people all geared to go and taking leave etc, I reckon 50 / 50 at this stage.,  The sunnaco supreme fuel arrived today, that wont last another year waiting though     Sufferin catfish I didnt evan swear
