Yes, the salt gets a slight powder cover after numerous runs......I can follow track-lines though the traps (1-mile) so your tire patch should be matched to your speed and power capabilities.....with limitations for the available speed-ratings of the tires. The actual ruts are more prevalent on the run-up sections caused by aggressive acceleration. Lots of very interesting discussion on the LSR site regarding tires, wheels, and aero......

I am running 21-inch wheels with narrow tires. Most build to get low but I think that creates bottom-pressure (lift) at speed for naked bikes. Tire sizes are limited for speeds in excess of 130mph and very limited for over 200mph.

I have a few 750 sohc motors and frames so am thinking of building something........need to exceed 170mph for P-P class record but new possibilities exist in the CLASSIC gategory (35-yrs and older) but I fear the water-cooled motors will domininate as the '80s bikes age.

I see what you mean about those old water bottles, I went to a scrutineering and test day put on by the DLRA a few months ago and this thing was blasting up and down the old mitsubishi test track straight , I thought it was a Kwaka 750 and he soon corrected me, When I was a boy they were popular for torquy speedway sidecars but the kwakas were the rage for top end type bikes. In stock trim my K2 & I had a couple of runs with the stock 750 water bottles and we were about evan at approx 115 mph. They used abit more juice at that speed than my Honda.

At that test day I only took 4 pics but you may find them interesting, to follow

What about this bloke , a bog standard norton engine totally original motor, not repired or anything, drop bars and compliance mods to frame etc , went like, sounded like it should be retired and I couldnt believe it when he said he had shipped the bike over to Bonneville for a run in the US just to say he had done it. Thats dedication

those water bottles are a bit of an underated engine allright , weird but , good thing ,(for a two stroke )dragraced one myself in the 70's , the blue bike is that Brett Destoops ,WATERBOTTLE APS/F 232MPH record holder thats fast for a waterbucket !,cast up his own barrell i'm told , my good mate bob , currently holds the M/G 750 record on a wterbucket 149 MPH ...damn noisy things

If all else fails Johno, One of the boys here in Darwin that we call MAD (For obvious reasons) has a fetish for jet engines on 2 wheels and was also partial to dropping the odd blown 350 Chev into a bike frame.

He's an old Honda 4 man and a bloody good bloke.

He used to like using Honda 4 front wheel hubs for his blower belt drives.

. Even when I get the roof of my shed repaired and stop the rain from leaking in all over my bikes , I'm afraid that it will still be much more compact ie , smaller than yours is . Good luck with the build mate and I look forward to following your progress on here .

I'd love to see some of that old footage if you still have it.
MAD (Ron Laycock) is a legend in his own right.
He had so much RC stuff that he sold to a guy and I should try and catch up with that fella again.
This guy bought MAD's RC Honda drag bike with a magnusson blower and I haven't heard much about it over the last few years.

I went there for a visit a while ago and he's got some nasty goodies tucked away in a container.

I needed another engine bench so on the weekend I have risked major conflict with the missus cos for years she has had a pot plant garden bench behind the shed so being the man I grabbed it , painted the frame red, and folded up a stainless top to cover the rusty crappy top. presto an engine bench. Brave stuff man , something to write about.

Finished bench. Ive always been a wood base fan and use newspapers to provide a clean bench , but lately Ive become anal about cleanliness so nothing but stainless tops in the shed now. Must be an old man thing.

Fired up the new bead blaster cabinet on the weekend, cost $262. plus $50 for a large bag of glass beads.
Those chinese must work for nothing. I had to plug in a vacuam cleaner for dust, plug on an air line, power for the light and away it went. For the cost I dont expect much, just hoping to get my beading done on a couple of engines, see how it goes.

In front of the cabinet This pic is to show the moisture removal tube I'm making up, the mob I bought it from said I would need a moisture removal filter but I'm trying a 6 foot by 2 inch stainless pipe , vertical with drain on bottom, air in from compressor up about 6 inchs from the bottom and air outlet from the top, plan is for the air to condense out from the temp change, collect in the bottom of tube , drain regularly, I'll let you know how effffective it is

Well lets see if this chicken chow meow gadget works, I have set of RC Engineering springs but have a fine surface rust, well not rust just a #$%*ty oxide, not sure if the pic shows, anyway lets see if this thing works.

PEEEERRRRfect, at $1 per clean Ive got 250 things to clean and I'm square.

Tomorrow night I'll have look at the painted black crankcase s ( they just fit in) and see how it handles the paint

PS I done a budget today and a project schedule, I sh#t myself and quickly deleted the budget and kept the schedule.

I resort to prayer to keep on schedule...................I flipped a used CB750K0 that came to me at a local swap-meet for a nice profit to pay for the Bonneville trip in 2011.
