 ::) ::) Yeh Pete is so light he would have landed like a butterfly, Bear has so much stainless reenforcing in him he is now indestructable, ;D  poor ol normal me just bites the dust :(   Hey I'm back on my feet now so all good, cant move far or long but can walk around without the sticks and work in the shed now.

Re the dates speed week is now officially 18th to 22nd Feb 2013.

NSW scrutineering is Jan 12th at some place called Annangrove ?   the info is now posted on the DLRA web site

Whats say I'll have a go at throwing something together this month, or at least confirm whether I can finish a bike  in time  end of this month so Pete can get organised in January getting his membership DLRA licence if he is going to ride and we can start to get some logistics covered, eg size of esky, shade, aircon van for us crew to sit in if its bloody hot.   One way or another sounds like a good way to spend a few days.
You wouldnt believe it but I was born in the closest town Iron Knob and as a young bloke had some great times out that way chasing roos and goats with my Dad on dirt bikes over 40 odd years ago. Looking forward to paying my respects at the local cemetry , grand parents and so on , been a long time , someone told me a few years ago the local pub burnt down, bloody shame. Might be an entreprenurial opportunity for a retired publican ? you wouldnt get stressed and busy Bear,  the town is a ghost town these days.

Lets keep each other in the loop and make the big decision before Xmas. ;D ;D ;D

Notice how in Australia you always do a slow run through first to scare the roos away ..... hopefully...... Then give it heaps .

All those gauges mate , you would be feeling like it was your Samauto  ;D ;D

 all these hi tech bikes on the salt will get me paranoid about being a country bumpkin, I think we'll have to instruct Pete just to do donuts and wheelies to entertain rather than go flat out. ;)

Those dates fit perfectly with me.
We have Phillip Island January 25th to the 27th.
Then it was our intention to completely strip the bike and sandblast it before going over the chassis with a fine tooth comb to make shore there are no defects after the Tassie crash.
Might hang off with the strip down till after Speed Week then I won't get to neurotic about salt damage.
One of my mates I race against has a class record using his P4 sidecar set at 149mph.
I would dearly love to take the record off him and get over the 150mph mark at the same time. :D
Having said that, I've never tried this salt caper before.
How hard could it be? 8)

Just a thought Brian, re the raceweek , the regs are similiar to ACU but with a few suttle differences. Would pay to download the regs from the DLRA website , have a read, and then ring the chief scrutineer to clear the grey areas up.

The two key points are, there are no rescources available other than what you take or can beg buy or steal at the lake , so no opportunity to change much.  Some poor bloke at Bonneville must have got burnt from a fuel fire and they are now paranoid about anything to do with fuel.

The last meeting at Lake Gairdner some poor bloke from Sweden had sent his bike to OZ , fronted up for scrutineering , didnt pass, couldnt change the issue in time and had to be a spectator for the week. Everybody felt bad about it,  including the scrutineer but all he could do was shout him a beer and console him.  I found ringing the scrutineer the best way as the regs are always open to interpretation.   Especially to us techno heads looking for a sneaky advantage.

Plus I'm not sure about chair rules at all so check up just in case Bear.

Be good if you bring the chair, cant wait to hear the noise at flat chat, should make a good video clip for the forum boys, crank up the volume and go for a ride baby.  ;D

A bit naive or what ? (fool) I thought the same thing about Burt Munro after watching The Worlds Fastest Indian but knowing it was just a film thought no more about it.
Before you go tear arseing to the other side of the world, you check the rules, regulations, licencing and permits that are required.
It's as daft as thinking, I've done a track day on my Honda Fireblade, I think I'll go to Japan next week and race in the Moto GP, it just don't happen.....or does it, are there people out there that do this. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

This was his bike he learnt to ride on, its been sitting in the shed for many years as he didnt like motorbikes  was and is mad keen on pushbikes, his grandpa and I couldnt believe it. Can ride a bike though and competes at a national level, hes heading over to watch the tour d france next year so I'll have to give him a few tips on how to pull in a bird    ;D ;D ;D  the little Honda Ive been saving it for a pit bike  to go to the loo,  I expect there arnt many trees to sh#t behind out on the lake. The horsepower will be  about right for me, maybe I could put a cam in ???

Well , action replay from the start of the thread,
2nd frame, third engine, I made damn sure the cases were OK this time.
This stuff is a result of a few dud cases and as well I need to get an emergancy back up roller chassis as its looking like I wont finish the dedicated race bike, how I want,  in time.  the frame looks in reasonable condition and is better than the race bike frame.  I ve done some work on the race frame which was not just rusty but not in spec from Honda, have a heap of pics but I'm going to do the frame show and tell thing when the frame is finished.

At this time I have one full weekend this month and a few nights, and then 3 weeks at home in January to get something together. Still hoping to throw a fun bike together.

Re a back up engine I have most of the bits, just need to order a decent cam guide , engine crank and rod bearings, I have an old head that was tidied from the good ol days,  but might freshen it up with some of those reduced stem head valves from cycle x,  hope the heads dont pop off at 9,000 in top gear for 9 minutes at a time , might get them to match the springs as well just for security, if any one knows what there like,  good or not so good let me know.  When I was a young bloke I had a head drop off a Manly stainless os valve in a Cobra style engine and it totalled the engine, kind of haunted me my whole life and I'm paranoid about springs and valves .

So if I can get the bits from the states by 1st week Jan I might get lucky, not sure what the starter would think if Pete sohc fronted up to the start line on the Z50  ;D ;D ;D

I got the car licence back Brian but they wouldn't hand over my bike licence for the road and that's what the DLRA require. I'm still talking to them about it though.
It wasn't a problem having my road racing licence reissued, Motorcycling Australia went out of their way to help me out.
Having held a Ma comp. licence since 1981 probably helped.
The DLRA wouldn't know me from a bar of soap.
