This the sucker I cant get out, I made a special johno tool but it turned to #$%*e, I will drill the so and so,
I can see down the gallery to the back of the plug with a bright light and it has glass crap hard in there.

I brought a pack of Moroso cleaning brushes and man I will wear them out.

I had the cases aqua bead blasted, outside looks awesome but one thing........this will be the last time I ever do it.
the galleries were just full of the glass #$%*, no matter how much detergant I used and pressure cleaners etc it didnt float the #$%* out.........I kept thinking of H2 Eric result.

Notice the plug the glass build up.
Simply if there is a dead end gallery you will not get it all out,   I got 2 out of 3 plugs out so far so I will drillt he last plug out cos I wont risk the beads.
There is an aluminum plug under the clutch cover area that will not bang out (plugs the oil galley for the transmission). The good thing is there is enough meat to drill and tap for a 6mm socket head and copper crush washer. The rubber plug opposite (under the transmission cover) can easily be removed allowing full access to that galley for a good cleaning.

I had my head ultrasonically cleaned,,,CRAP !,,,clean, yeah, but not the cosmetic external appearance I was after,
Methinks they used a weird medium in their dip ?

You can NEVER understatement the ability of glass bead. It can be defeated......it requires effort. Every hole has to be opened (that's what she said). Joking.

Johno......I have seen the results of 3 others that sand-blasted or glass-beaded.........and it was not pretty :( :( :(

I use professional brake-cleaning fluid, brushes, rags, and then my friend at the radiator shop uses a pressurized steam-cleaner if needed. Then I rinse the insides of the cases with kerosene, let dry, tape and plug everything closed, rinse the outsides with acetone, heat to 200-degrees, paint as needed, and re-heat to 250-degrees for 2 hours.  I use Frog-tape and so far have had no melting or fires. All of this was done on the CL72 and CL77 motors where only the case-covers get painted.  Now preparing two sets of CB750 K cases to try and catch-up to you! I am thinking about skipping the paint because I see what the salt does, along with the expected extra-touches by a few wrenches...............maybe save the paint for the 'trophy' show bike phase of its life ;D

Hi retro,
Thats what I had done.
The old pommy engines have very basic easy to clean oil galleries where as our cb 's have lots of dead end end galleries, I normally would not have done bead blasting but the finish of the water blasting was so attractive I gave it a go.

I prepped the cases as best as I could for exposure to beads, every thread on the cases I put in bolts, where I could plug I did and I even made plugs for holes.....but the water then takes the beads to places I couldnt believe , eg evan past threads with bolts in.

I am committed now but I am in for a big cleaning job thats for sure, drilling and removing all plugs , re tapping every thread ,  just wouldnt do anything with bead again.  But hey the outside looks great ! ;D

The reason i linked that guy is that he does a lot of very high end restorations and has a great reputation up here, actually, people Australia wide send in all sorts of stuff including vintage Ferrari engines and the like, not to sure how he does the engine oil galleries but I've chatted to him first hand and seen his work and its top notch... I'll be using him soon... ;)  Look at the gallery, there's a sandcast engine there with lots of pics... ;)

Wet Blasting / Vapour Blasting / Aqua Blasting are all the same thing RR, and use an abrasive media suspended in water.  You'll always have the issue johno has.  The trick is in how well the parts are cleaned after.  Soda blasting is probably the safest, as it's water soluble.

The water blasting does leave a really nice finish. A friend of a friend in Rhode Island has a nice machine.....we did some heads and they really glisten. The pics on that website Retro provided look very, very nice too.

Does anyone use walnut shells to blast or plastic ?
Walnut is not that soft, but I think much kinder to engine parts if it does get in places..

I've used walnut.  It get the big stuff off, but just doesn't get you that etched, ready-to-paint surface that garnet or SiO2 does.
Take care,
David

Had to go into the bad city yesterday   ::) and was randomly walking down a street and come across a good old fashioned speed shop, couldnt resist,  went in for a look at all the car stuff and monkey see monkey buy thing happened. Came out with a few goodies,   I dont really need them but a pair of wire twisters and stainless wire, for the axle and sump bolts, some heat cover for the fuel lines,  a longacre  good electrical ignition switch with an oil light adapter,( so Peter doesnt have to look at numbers just red light or go)  and also some tyre softener.  why the tyre softener you ask ?

Your 4 (kings) beats his 3 (queens) and you have an ACE up your sleeve :) :) :)

If all goes well in the motor building department, I think your looking at 162-mph on a dry and windless course.
