They say it will get  in any wiring connection...( there are ways to seal them).or at least does on a regular basis
 I suspect that is caused more by brine than actual salt crystals.)

What I meant was to have a LITTLE amount of water available to dampen the brush. I had salt crystal get into a wire connection for my tach (which I don't have mounted) a cause a short.  Yes, the salt will get into the grease on the throttle pipe and eat your clip-ons

The brine effect is less harmful than pure salt.........think about it.  Just don't use a high-pressure washer on any bearing surfaces or the motor. The idea is to brush and rinse the salt OFF of the bike.........not push it INTO the bike.

Running a front fender and a fairing really helps to keep salt off of the bike.  But the dust will get everywhere, including the rain-gutter on your vehicle. I spray all of my vehicle hinges and locks with WD40 before driving on the salt-bed.

They had this stuff at Bonneville called *Salt Away*...you spritz it all over the bike and supposedly most of the salt comes off if you spray it down with a pressure washer..we were hauling gallon milk jugs of water out to the flats every morning to have on hand,we put a tarp down and plugged the pressure washer into the generator and had at it..

worked better than nothing,but that salty stuff finds it way into everything...learned my lesson,my bike was clean clean when i took it out there..whatever could rust afterwards,did so..

so its spray bomb paint for me from here on out,lol...no ones looking that close when your 1/4 mile away in the pits watching me *fly* by on the Mountain course,ha ha

modified some air cleaners last night, not happy with the result, the outside carbs are so close to the frame tubes , I think the foam may effect the flow but dont have any other options that I can think of

It was late but I made a start on the electical.

Fitted the power arc senders etc, not sure on the wiring as the instructions that come with it are for another make and model , not the 4 coil version so emailed power arc early this morning find out what colour goes where ?

Rule re socks is you should have a minimum interior distance equal to the bell mouth ID.  Looks like your tight.  So next best thing is the cut down the outside socks so they don't bunch up, that will really effect the flow.  Then match the inside ones so you get the same flow characteristics.  Otherwise you'll have jetting issues between the inside barrels and the outside ones.

The vent holes on the left sides of the carbs should also have some sort of filters, at least to keep the bugs out. (ever had your day ruined by a fly plugging a jet?? ) I've used a chunk of filter foam stuffed in the opening in a pinch, but like Brian mentioned, don't have the foam compressed to the point it restricts airflow.

Can you cut them so they just cover the stacks, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch ,make them all the same?

I'd agree with that. Pull them tight and use a couple of zip ties to hold them in place.

+1 on also filtering the air pressure balance holes.  Use some of the filter material you remove from the shortened socks.  Should be a light press-in fit.  Make some extras so you can replace the ones that get salted.

Two good suggestions, I'll do both,  I'll shorten allfilter pods til the ends touch the end of ram tubes & zip tie

sorry about the lack of chit chat , was Fiday night last night and have the goal to sart on Sunday so went to 2.30 last night and midnight most nights during the week           still married apparently

Johno, i saw somewhere on the forum a guy that modified the vertical frame rails to accommodate twin carbs, the mods would suit you bike perfectly so there was nothing restricting the filters, with your obvious skills you could do it easily, maybe not now, but later on. I'll look for the pic and post it here if you like...?

If you can find that picture Mick I'd appreciate it too. I would like to make a large airbox for mine but without restructuring those rails it is a difficult project.

I was going to suggest this to johno for the future. An engine running flat out on the salt would very likely benefit from a large airbox too. With the effect of some ram air intake who knows?

+1 you don't want the filter material right against the bell mouth, that will disrupt air flow.  Leave as much interior space as possible between the bell mouth and the interior endface of the filter.  Too late now but you could have used a 10mm rolled edge, given running flat out is all your interested in.

Went back and looked at the pics before the filters were fitted: not much room between the stacks and the frame. Looks like that manifold mounts the carbs much further back than mine?
