Why do that?

To be fair, Danny know he would cop some flack, look at the title of the thread.

I realized right after I posted that, the short answer to my question is "Because he asked for it."  ;)

I'm with lucky on this one. The gunshop analogy does not apply here since they were not asking a set price but were trying to get a fair amount for them.  Am I supposed to turn down any item with a good price and tell the seller they should charge me more? Come on!  That's why we scour craigslist everyday, to find that gem of a deal.

Sure, keep looking for good deals.  Why not?  But berate someone for trying help someone else out?  Why do that?

To be fair, Danny know he would cop some flack, look at the title of the thread.  This reminds me of the "IMOLA" 500 thread, Rigid knew absolutely nothing about the bike and did the exact same thing, all it was, was a 500 with a fairing...  He was hosed as well.... ;D
Oh, that wasn't Rigid, Mick, that was KingKustomCycles. ;) ;) ;) ;)

There is more to these scenarios than intervening on an "uninformed" sellers behalf. I believe the value of collectibles really belongs to the one that held it over the years. Heirs in most cases inherit an unearned windfall but (I agree) it still "belongs" to them. However, where is the responcibility of the grantor to make the value known, or it finally rests with the heir to exercise due diligence to find out. If they are negligent then good samaritans can't always save them. Remember "caveat emptor"? Buyer are told to beware, well sellers also need to beware.
The only reason prices on collectibles keeps climbing is people with more money than others want them. The sandcast case is inferior to the pressure molded cases but people with more discretionary money want one so they become more valuable as an investment.
I would like to score one cheap, not for the resale value, just because I'm sucked in to the hype too! I could die having owned a "sandcast" and if they fell out of vogue & my heirs couldn't capitalize on that, well, they didn't earn it.

It is not all hype. some sandcast parts are made much better than the newer models. Especially the carbs. Much easier to work on and almost half the weight.

I'd like to see a timeline chart to see what parts that are being referred to as "sandcast" were specifically only on the bikes with sandcast cases that ended at a specific engine/frame number. If these parts were continued on the subsequent pressure cast engines then they are just "early" CB750 K0 or K1 parts & calling them sandcast probably serves no purpose except to drive their individual resale price up like I've seen on epaY.

I read those "early" carbs had 4 seperate throttle cables & Honda improved them to a single cable.
I did read the "early" pipes were "better" being less restrictive.

Before anyone sells anything they have to come up with a price that they think their item is worth. It is up to the buyer to point out defects to the seller if the seller does not know what they are selling.

You must find out all about the item you are selling BEFORE you put it on the market. It is up to you to do your homework.

But of course you do not cheat a child .

Great, you did something that may or may not have helped an uninformed seller. But why brag about it here when really you are pushing a possible good deal out of reach for this community? Why are you more closely tied to a seller on craigslist than a community of people here willing to do detailed research, write ups, and give free advice? If anything you should have posted here that there was a good deal to benefit the community. Or at the very least kept your mouth shut about "helping" some craigslist poster. I think you need to post some really helpful posts here to override this set of bad ju-ju. It will come back around....

lucky, sandcast carbs are nothing special, and annoying to string up and sync. You gotta stop telling people to ditch their PDs man.

I like my PDs they work great The pump was a great idea. But I learned how to work on them that was the key. A lot of older people don't like new ideas and just give up and talk about how bad they are. Hope I never get old or at least any time soon. It did not take Honda to long to figure out the first carb setup was just wrong. Finally in 78 they got it right ;D

what are PD's?

PD's are carbs that the K7&8's have. Biggest difference from earlier carb is that they have an accelerator pump.

CR's aren't that great for the street and take a fair bit of setting up, they are basically race carbs, set up for mostly high revs, if you have access to a dyno and some money to throw around then go for it, there are plenty of carbs around that are better for the street....
A good set of CV's is a better option but which ever way you go you still need to have a good understanding of carbs...

Don't hate you for this.......but can I hate you for the latest banking scandal...Barclay's or one of the previous ones like Lehman's, JP Morgan, Chase, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs.....   How old are you...how about the S&L scandal in the late 80's  ;) ;D

I think you must have some integrity and honesty......most would have bought it for themselves or to flip for profit at a price well below it's worth.  Just because an owner doesn't know the value shouldn't mean they don't deserve a fair price.  Would anyone rip of a little old lady selling her dead sons beloved old motorcycle? ;D

I am HAUNTED by the 750 I ALMOST bought back in '03. Totally complete garage find, old couple retired, selling off their long-dead son's stuff, it was just dusty as #$%* but so damned complete it was like a magazine photo. I tell myself "It had a BLACK stripe on an ORANGE-ISH gold tank ... It had a BLACK STRIPE on a...." 'cause sure as #$%*, it was a K1 at the very very latest. And more likely than not, it was a K0, and I tell myself the gold sand-cast had a gold stripe. Usually. The ASKING price? Five bones. I got a parts bike to fix up my DOHC supersport instead. But now I've been haunted to the point where I'm stickin' candy paint and wire wheels on the DOHC. Ha ha. "The one that got away...." We ALL have a few stories about that. Just keep me talkin' about BIKES and don't let's talk about POON-TANG....

-Sigh.

There is a country western song now that is popular about a soldier that gets killed and leaves a corvette covered up in a barn and his mother puts an ad in the paper saying a chevy is for sale. So  a buyer gets the car for a very low price and when he is cleaning the car he finds a note saying that whoever gets the car will always be riding with the soldier and then the guy gets in a wreck and he says the soldier saved his life.
What is the name of that song? Very good song. Something.... Patrick O'rielly ?

Karma, Golden Rule, call it what you will....
I was turned on to a 1965 Strat and the lady wanted to at least make her money back. This was 15 years ago, her husband bought it for their son on his birthday prior to going to vietnam..... at the time she told me they bought an older one that had been in the store for a few years un-bought. She pulled the case from under the bed, I opened it, found the original hang-tags, original strings, and a receipt for $200 + tax. She asked me for $150...... I have to look at that bozo in the mirror every morning so...... I told her it was worth at least 10 times that amount. She went on about how her son never learned to play before he left for war and she also told me he never came home from that war. I told her thank you but I couldn't afford what that guitar was worth and even gave her information as to where she could sell it.
The karma gods patted me on the back and touched her heart. She gave me the guitar and only asked that I take care of it. I play that guitar everyday.
The right thing to do is always the right thing to do.....
