Martek 440 tips/tricks?
« on: July 05, 2012, 09:01:37 PM »
G'day guys,

Wondering if anyone has any experience fitting a Martek 440? Particularly to a CB400F?

I have just purchased one second hand off a running CB750.

I've seen fitting instructions on here, but I was wondering if there is anything I should be careful of, or to look out for during installation?

Also, any experience with the best coils to go with it?

Thanks guys.
Dan.

I think that the rotor shaft diameter on a 400 is smaller than on the 750 (15mm). Your going to have to get the 750 advance mechanism to make it work..
Just a recollection from working on a 400F many years ago  ;) ;)

That info is perfect.

Thanks guys.

Do you know what model CB750 Timing Advance Cam I can use ? There are a lot on eBay for '80 model DOHC CB750's. Do you know if these will suit ?
Thanks and Regards,

G'Day Dan, get one for a SOHC CB750, any year or model from 1969 to 1978. They're a great ignition mate, I've got one on my Suzuki GS1000, and had one on my CB750F2 that I sold to a bloke in Perth last year. Did you buy that one on EBay for $59.99? I thought about it, but I've got more Martek ignitions than I have CB750's, so I let it go. Only thing to be really careful about, don't accidentally connect 12V to one of the signal wires, or you'll fry it, and you can't repair them. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Hey mate.

Yeah, that's the one I grabbed. I think it was actually one of your posts that lead me to it.

Thanks for the advice too man. Any idea where I could score one in Aus for around the same price as they're going in the US?

Does this look like the correct unit? It's on eBay. Off a '75 CB750F.
