Everything is "sandcast" to the unscrupulous sorts that try to squeeze a few extra bucks outta ya. Short answer: no.

It will fit a sand cast!  But technically, sandcast is an engine, tank is not. The wrinkle tanks are valuable, look inside, is it smooth?  Yes, then not a wrinkle. Is there rust inside? If not, worth $60.

The wrinkle tanks have a wrinkle directly below the gas cap much like the wrinkle in the top picture.  Directly below the gas cap on the pictured one is smooth. :(

In any case, if you got a wrinkle tank for $60 in nearly any condition, you did really well.  Paying $60 for that tank may not have been that bad of a deal.

I might pay $60 for that tank if it didn't have that dent.  I wouldn't say you blew 60 bucks, but you also didn't get a fantastic deal, IMO.  It's a decent tank with a dent and needs paint.

A tank is a tank.  A tank with a cap & petcock is a tank with a cap & a petcock. ;)

A beat up cb750 wrinkle gas tank sold recently for........$1000.00
on ebay.

Notice there are 2 areas of wrinkles in the metal on the tank's bottom -- the 'sandcast' wrinkle tank has the forwardmost wrinkle set, the wrinkles run front-to-back, that as mentioned is right below the gas cap.

When someone says "I have a wrinkle tank" open the gas cap and look straight down -- if you see wrinkles, buy that sucker if its cheap regardless of the paint condition.

That wrinkle tank in the photo there, well it aint too pretty here is the top side photo:

It sold for $1000 on ebay.  $60?  You got a great deal on a non-wrinkle but early cb750 tank there imo.

Check it out, sold in Feb. 2012 for $1000 on ebay.

Particularly with the 750 tanks. Are there some years that are thicker than others? I have one tank that just feels heftier.
