Which front brake master cylinder kit is the correct one?
« on: July 09, 2012, 01:42:18 PM »
i bought the kit for a 1978 honda cb750 which is on the bag but then when i was going to rebuild it, my cousin told me it was missing two parts to it which are pointed out with the arrows on the other photo. he rebuild his master cyinder with the kit with the arrows for a 1978 honda cb550.
but when i search for the kits, both seem to show up for both bikes. HELP!!

the top kit is correct for the K8. it works fine.  I installed one just recently.

the bottom kit, the small black rubber piece, is included in some kits to go on the small end of the spring.  the wire is included, IIRC, to help keep the rubber bonnet in place on the top of the plunger.  neither were in the kit i got, and i dont seem to need them.

the arrow on the left points to the wire which i think holds in the rubber "sleeve", which you need to remove to get out the circlip.

the arrow on the right points to an identical part in the above pic, which is just the round black thing (in a top-down view).

the pic on the bottom looks like it has an extra seal, probably to accommodate either MC - my guess is that part is slightly different on the 550 vs the 750.

I think either would work, as you can re-use the round wire.  :)

i was thnking the other 2 small parts should have been included if needed on the first kit, so it should work as good as the kit on the bottom. so i'm going to use the kit i bought then. thanks a lot!!

I had a fiasco when I ordered one a while back.  It was the wrong size.  I noted two sizes of pistons, 14mm and 16mm I believe.  I had a thread on it but yeah I've been burned by that before.
