Wrist pin oiling?
« on: July 09, 2012, 06:21:29 PM »
Neither my stock CB750 conn rods nor the Carrillo rods in my race engine have those little oil-ejecting holes that I've seen on many car engines.  How does the wrist pin get lubrication?  Presumably, the cylinder walls will get splash-oiled, but it seems odd to me that there isn't a more direct way to get oil up to the wrist pin.  Or have I missed something?

There's a notch in the in the sides of the con rod at the big end facing the piston . These spray oil at the underside of the piston .

The piston wrist pin is not spinning, it is just a small amount of movement

The part in the piston may not move, though my piston pin bosses had holes in them for some splash feed. Then the top of the small end of the rod has a hole in it to capture some splash into the pin/small end area.

I think that's right.

Okay, I see that on the stock rods.  But my Carrillo rods don't have that.  They don't seem to have pin holes, either.  I can't see any way for the oil to get up to the piston, yet these rods came out of a running engine so I assume there must be a way.  I'll write Carrillo and see what they say.
