Brake Shoe Trick
« on: July 13, 2012, 02:49:45 PM »
After installing new brake shoes in the rear drum I've noticed they do not work as well as the old ones until I have ridden 500 miles or so. I took them out to look at them and they seem to only wear on a small portion of the pad near the pivot.

Is there a trick to sanding them down in this area before installation so the whole radius grips the hub when applied?
Not putting miles on your bike is like not having sex with your Girl Friend so she'll be more desirable to her next Boy Friend.

Yes there is a way to do it and it is not a "trick"
It is called Arcing the shoes. They do it for cars and trucks all the time.
You might have to do it on a table sander and just sand a little bit and then recheck the fit of the shoe with the brake drum.

Do not breathe the dust.

Racetech performs that service.
