ignition questions

while putting new plugs in this weekend I had the #2 plug wire break apart at the boot. So do you guys have a suggestion on an aftermarket ignition system? Also how about any online retailers that you have had good experiences with. Thank you.

Welcome. I think noone is answering your questions because of lack of info.

What kind of bike?
Wire broke at boot? Don't understand this, what boot??
Dyna makes a good aftermarket ignition system.

I think maybe he is talking about either where wire connets to plug connector... If so He can replace plug wire/spark plug adapter with new.  They just twist on to wire.  Remember if you buy new Ignition coil most Manufacturers come with Plug wire installed so all that is normally needed is plugwire/sparkplug adapter.

Just about every Dealer carries and 99% can be used on any bike... Until you get Exotic and see the likes of a R6 (Yamaha) then the CDI coil pack's fits right on spark Plugs (4).

Also remember sparkplug adapter/connector boot twists (Threads) onto ignition cable and is readally removed

sorry it's a 74 bc750 and yup it came apart where the wire attaches to the spark plug connector, then last night i realized it kinda just screws on.

Pamco has a good rep these days. I use Dyna S and never had a problem. Others have had problems with Dyna products. There's also Boyer Bransden made in the UK , a unit made in Germany ( I think member Nippon has something to do with these ) , and the CycleX power arc. Dyna also makes a unit called the 2000 a version of which allows adjustment of the timing curve through a computer interface. There may be more.

The spark plug caps are cheap ($3) and easily replaced. And the spark plug wire can be trimmed, how far from the end did it break?
Get the caps at your local Honda dealer.

An ignition is not really what will fix your problem directly. The plug caps are part of the coil assy, not the ignition.

As mentioned, the stock cap can be replaced on the stock wire if the wire is still long enough.

Replace the coils and you can make any wire any length you want.

You do know that your bike is close to 40 yrs. old and that stuff like that ( plug cap ) will happen every week and need to be fixed !!  Learn, learn, learn as much as you can or have very deep pockets to keep your bike going... just sayin'  :)

Maybe I'm not understanding correctly, but did the screw-on cap just come off?  If so, you can just cut 1/4 inch from the end of the wire and screw back on (assuming you have enough length).  I had a trouble wire and did this three times (probably about an inch of wire total) and it's finally on there tightly.  Takes 1 minute.....and it's free.  Look inside the plug cap and you should see the screw that threads into the plug wire.

I would listen to what has been said and see if you can get a new plug cap, or wire spice as the coils are expensive.  I have tried different electronic ignitions and am currently running points, and must say properly tuned points run just about as good as electronic.  The real benefit of points vs electronics is the ability to set the timing on on 1,4 and 2,3 independently couple with Hondaman's ignition and you should have a trouble free setup which will last for many miles.

What you are really needing is plug wires not an ignition.  I have had a very good experince with this compainy and their products.  The wires come with a little sheet showing test results.  they fit perfectly, and they a plenty long enought to allow you to cut them shorter if you need to cut them down at a later date.  On my bike I went from a weak spark you couldn't see in daylight to a bright blue spark you can see outside on a bright day.
