rejeting my cb550K what size is 2 sizes larger?
« on: July 10, 2012, 11:21:55 PM »
I own a 76 cb550K.  I plan on purchasing a 4-1 exhaust system from Carpy from Nostalgia Speed and Cycle.  He recommended that I increase my main jet size two sizes bigger.  If I remember right the stock size are 100.  Are the next size incraments 105 then 110?  I will be running Pod filters as well.  I have read that some go 4 sizes larger, is this overkill?  Any experience/advice in welcome.  Any suggestions on where a good place is to find some larger main jets.  I've been brousing the web and haven't found much.  Thanks in advance.  Dave

Don't run pod filters.
Yes, two sizes up will be 110.
I get my jets from JetsRUs http://www.jetsrus.com/a_jet_kit_street/honda_550_CB550K_1974-1976.htm#

Quite a few posts discussing how inconvenient it is to change oil filter if you use crapy's 4-1 exhaust.

Keep the stock air box then?  I've heard it doesn't let the carbs breath well.  Thanks for the link for the jets, I can order some now :D I was unaware that Carpy's 4-1 exhausts made the oil filter hard to access.  I'm wondering if this is just for cb750 exhausts that he has been doing for a while and not the recent 4-1's he has had made for the cb500/550?  I will run it by him.

The stock airbox will help the bike RUN well.

Yeah, pods and mid size fours are not great together.

On my 550k1 im running the 100,38, needle dropped 1 clip, air screw out 2 turns, stock air box and a ceramic coated carpy 4into1 and it runs like a raped ape. i could probably lean it out a touch more but it runs prefect. Also its has to come off to change filter.

1976 550K.

The stock settings were:
Stock Main jets #100 mm.
Stock idle jets #38 mm.
Stock Needle clip position 4th from the top.
Stock mixture screw position 1.5-2 turns out.

My recommendation:
Carpy 4 into 1 exhaust.
Pod filters.

Main jets #110 mm.
Stock idle jets #40 mm.
Stock Needle clip position 4th from the top.
Stock mixture screw position 3/4 turns out.

BTW if Carpy sold you this exhaust he could let you know what the jetting should be and that does not just mean the main jet size. He has worked on a lot of these bikes.
He also has customer feedback.
