Surface rust a thing of the past...almost.

So my kids were gone to the GPs house this Sunday and the GF was in town. So I am sitting there thinking of what to do to the CB350F and it hits me I had just read that CLR removes surface rust like magic. Well, it sure did in my application! The bike had been neglected looks wise as in not been washed for years it seemed. And as a result, and it coming from Jersey, it had surface rust on all the chrome parts, rims, fenders, bars and the header pipes. Now it all is basically great except there are still tiny stains on the header pipes although you kinda have to know where they are to uh....know where they are! I am well pleased at how it came out as it only took 30 minutes and a quarter bottle of CLR and some elbow grease.

I like this idea!!!  Is there any potential for damage with CLR remover?

I'm also interested in how well this works.  My wife just asked me the other day why I didn't tell her to use CLR to clean up the chrome on her bike.

It doesn't harm the bike in any way, doesn't even leave a residue since you rinse it off with warm or hot water...it is very mild but works like magic. Try it on a small area like I did first but Mine worked great and now the bike looks so much better. Amazing what a little work on that rust will do for the overall looks of the bike.

Just don't use scotch brite pads like the green ones, they are too abrasive, I used the weird blue ones that are called non sctraching pads dfrom wally world from the isle where they sell all the cleaning brushes and brooms and stuff.

Don't forget to coat that fresh metal with wax or light oil application or that rust will be back in a hurry.  CLR contains acid so that thorough was and rise is critical.

I just rinsed out a tank with Evaporust. Claims to stop flash rust for 2 weeks if you dont rinse it off and just let it air dry. So far Im happy.

Vinegar or Prep-N-Etch are my usual go-to's they seem to work fine. Then again I've never dealt with 'light' surface rust.
Might have to give CLR a go and see how it does.

Not here it won't but anywhere where it actually rains or it is above our average humidity it sure will! This bike came from Jersey and is now here in New MExico where we have to Google Rust to see what it looks like. Here we are like, What's that reddish brown stuff on that car from Ny?
