Hi, i'm new to SOHC forum
« on: July 05, 2012, 04:57:21 AM »
Hi all, just doing the intro thing; greetings from Victoria, Australia!

I just purchased a MY73 CB350F from California and am anxiously awaiting its delivery, the ship is due to dock in about 2 weeks.  Although I do have some experience with motocross this is my first road bike.  The plan with this bike is to do some non-perminant mods (bars and seat), some general maintenance and then just enjoy.  The bike seems to be in exceptional condition and I am told it runs as good as it looks.  Its a single owner and fully original with around 20,000 km.  It also comes with original tool-kit and handbook. I am currently looking for a local club to join for tech support and riding partners.

Looking forward to joining the SOHC community.

Welcome!   You've already joined our little club, you're off to a good start.

How did you find the bike? Was it difficult to import it?

@ Stev-o

Found it on eBay.  Purchased it and had it delivered to shipper.  I found a local shipper that had a US warehouse close to where I bought the bike from.  Had the seller deliver it to the warehouse.  The shipper then boxed it up and loaded into his container.  I pick it up directly from him at his local shop.

I'm due to pick it up in a few days, very excited.

@ All

I don't know if all the fluids had to be drained for shipping, regardless I plan on replacing the engine oil, engine oil filter and plugs before I ride it.  I've got no idea what the bike has been doing in the last few years.

This is what I planned on using; 30W-30 (its between 5 and 40 degC here) and NGK D8EA.

Oil brand?
Synthetic or other?
Any thoughts on what else I should replace?

Not sure what else the bike will need when I get it.

Let me know if I should ask this question elsewhere, this is not exactly a tech thread...

Welcome.  Be careful with some of the synthetics, as the oil additives in them will effect clutch performance and wear.  If you do use a synthetic make sure it something approved for use with air cooled motors.  The tech forum will go into more details about this.  From personal experience I do know that Rotella 10W-40 is approved for air cooled motors.  As for vintage clubs there are many in that part of the world, and there is one I believe in Wauchope, (not sure of the spelling), that is pretty active.  I happened to meet a few members from that club here at a few events in the states.  Good luck with your project.

+1, don't use synthetic oil.  If you don't know the history, consider giving it the full 3000 mile tune up that Honda recommends. This includes plugs, points, condensers, filter, valve adjustment and timing.
Download the service manual off this site for the details.  Have fun!
