1968 Honda 450 cb help
« on: July 14, 2012, 10:08:03 AM »
I need HELP!  I have a 1968 450 CB with bent rods and broken rocker arms.  I have been trying to find the part numbers for some time now.  Can anyone help?  Knowing what year engines are compatible would help as well when I am digging threw a junk yard to find these parts.  Can anyone help?

this all came about when the cam chain broke.  I didn't notice anything prior to the break, but it pretty much just made a mess of things.  I guess what I'm asking is, is it even worth fixing? Am I dealing with a money pit?  Should I just piece the bike out on E-bay?  I sure is a pretty bike though.

If it were me I would look around for a cheap motor or parts bike. If you want part #'s try Service Honda.

There is no number for the rod; it comes with the crank!

A complete Pressed crank with rods is the best way to replace but check for big-end play......get a manual for tolerance specs........I had a '67 CB450 and sold bikes through '71 so many years to pick for parts.......check the color of the outer cover on the torsion boxes......if the metal is stained, stay away or be prepared to rebuild.......some of the motors were starved for oil resulting in upper bearing damage (yours?).......numerous oversized pistons available including the CB500 sizes.........while your in the motor check the tensioner for wear.
