Police Frame VIN
« on: July 21, 2012, 05:35:41 AM »
I bought 2 police cb750 last week,both are 1972,both serial number began with 112....
This make no sense the 72 model is supposed to began with 200....
Both engine number began with 113.....
Probably the police frame have a different serial number than the standard model??

Excerpts from long-forgotten readings indicate the police bikes were made in small batches. Special ID is typical because of the gearing, electrical, and special parts unique to those models.

There's limited info on the CB750 police version. As far as I know all North American examples were sales samples, no police forces bought them and they were sold to the general public a year or two after their actual model years. Police did use them in Japan but those were destroyed on retirement like all Japan police vehicles. I saw a video of retired Japanese souped up 280Z police chase cars going in the crusher - three years old and in perfect condition.

They are fleet bikes, so they may have held back till they sell, ie made in 71 but issued 72 reggie, if ordered that year.
I had a Montreal police CB 750, but it had no white parts, very little police stuff when I got it it, but it still had the cop speedo..

This have sense, both bike + spare parts I bought have the 69-70 tail light, rear fender, front fender. They have probably built a bunch of police bike in 69-70 and waiting to print the VIN tag until they sell. The serial number is probably from the normal production number since the frame and engine number are in the same range. So the bike probably been built in the late 69 or early 70.
