How much oil pressure at idle? 750 k5
« on: July 14, 2012, 12:11:41 PM »
I got the bike going but have only 18-20 psi of oil at idle. It ramps up fine with the throttle but i was curious to know what you guys were getting Thanx

That is more than sufficient at idle IIRC.

Unless my gauge is goofy, on a newly rebuilt engine I'm getting 60+psi at all rpms.  I'll be swapping gauges this weekend to test as i think this is high.

But yours is OK from what a know about it. Should get to 60+ by 3000 rpm.

When you say "idle" what RPM's? You can figure approx. 10 lbs/1,000 RPM when the engine is warmed to operating temp.

Sounds like you are fine. Keep in mind variables in gauge accuracy,  both tachs and pressure, ten lbs per 1,000 is pretty standard. It may vary 'slightly' depending upon ambient temps. When warmed,  but riding in March, it may run a few lbs higher per 1,000 rpm and at 95F in July,  a bit lower.

Of course  ;D

The weight makes difference in pressure - mine is 20W50

Good point. I use 10w40. I refuse to divulge the brand.  ;)
