I'm starting a thread about mermaids and giant squids. You see more of them than $100 sandcasts.

So I contacted the seller of the ad. Weird in two ways. Me in regard to calling in ask about the bike. The other was how he responded. On the phone he kept saying how its a 69' tank is mint, no seat. all there..... Then when I would ask questions he would say he was downtown and can barely hear me. OK no biggie. FInally he can hear me when I asked for pictures of the bike upclose and of the engine cases to determine damage, gauges, inside of tank, back side of the side covers. He says no problem and would call me in an hour when he gets off work. He asked if this was the number to reach me and I said yes...

Later in the day I get  pics sent to me on my phone from him. I ask him for the pics of the vins, cases, tank and side cover and gauges again. Then he starts going off saying how he spent 20 bucks on gas to drive to the bike to take the pics. WHich were at a distance of the bike, not what I asked for. Simply 2 side shots next to a tree which it looks as if he found the bike in the woods.

He then says he already left the bike and can not take pics and how he spent 20 bucks on gas,,,.... I tell him I am willing to pay him through paypal, he says no.... I offer a check, he says no checking account. He then tells me to mail him a money order made out to no body, leave blank. Once he gets the money order, that is when he will send the parts in the mail.....

I think could be a risky move but most likely a scam....

This is his text I get from him "Make me a reasonable offer one time only"

I am like wtf......I say sure, 80 bucks... 20 for the gas........ Which I already know is a #$%*ty offer but oh well. This guy isn't for real I am thinking.

He responds "Not Hardly thanks later"

I said K I am sorry for wasting your time. If I could see inside of tank alone I could make a better offer.

He then goes off saying how honest he is BLAH BL:AH BLAH ... Now I have a CL weirdo with my number!

Here are the pics. It looks to be cleaned up since his CL post. I hope the OP looked at it and got a good deal with some legit parts

The money order was not big enough to make it worth his while. Sounds like you should have a little fun at his expense and 419 gig him.
Tell him you'll send a money order for like $800 bucks and "accidentally" send it to a Western Union like 50 miles away, in a bad part of town somewhere. But make sure he does some more dancing on his end, more pics, ridiculous requests before you send him on a money order hunt. They do this kind of thing all the time to Nigerian 419 scam artists.

This site has some hilarious 419 scam stories.

I agree...this sounds like the sort of bike I would only buy in person. And I would not drive far to see it either. All the info just does not add up to an honest sale here.

It does appear to be a SC frame with at least a couple of other possible SC parts.
But yeah, have to see it in person.

I wouldn't drive too far, 754, unless you need a K1 speedo and enjoy fabricating and welding seat hinges to rusted thru frame rails. But, hey, sandcast MX bars are pretty rare...

I would, so I could conk you over the head with a tree branch and take your money order when you arrived at said location- that is if I were a scammer.   8)

No, in Mypos we throw stones at gypsies and conk people over heads with tree branches.
No need for guns.

dukie - I thought you lived in "My POS"?

This might sound like a dumb question, but what technically would be a sandcast frame?

One clue is you can see the horn mount on the left.  And the serial number of course.  ;)

It's a frame cast from the finest sands of Honda's Genie Lamps.
