'75 Cb750f handlebar controls
« on: July 15, 2012, 09:56:00 AM »
So when I bought my bike in boxes 9 weeks ago I had no idea what I was getting in to. It was hard to go through all the boxes to make sure everything was there. I was missing a drive chain, side covers, nuts bolts etc. but what I completely over looked were the handle bar controls. I was missing a throttle, grips and the right handle control was pretty much ruined.

The start button is missing, throttle missing, wires cut... My question is where can I get just a complete handle bar with controls (original isn't necessary) or is this worth resurrecting and how the heck do I do it?

Pictures will be posted in a little bit.

Are there after market controls that work and look simple?

There are general aftermarket controls you can get but they won't be plug-n-play.  I got a "new" right hand control on e-bay but it was $$$.  The "for sale" section on this forum will be your best chance for the correct controls at a decent price.

New right hand control for $90.00.  I bought one from them a few years ago.  Don't bother trying to buy a used one (unless it comes very cheap) as the problems with these are the starter button that fails with age.  The starter button is not sold separately.  Others have come up with aftermarket solutions if you do a search.  It's a common problem so all you need to do is decide if you want to spend $90 for a quick and proper fix or spend $? and time on an aftermarket solution.  If you get the new one swap your old red kill switch for the purple one the new unit comes with...if that's important to you, otherwise it's an exact replacement.

You can get identical bars from Sudco. Part #900-307. This is not listed as 75/76 CB750F but it is the correct one. Side note: enlarge the wire holes with a Dremel, etc to make pulling wires MUCH easier. The holes are smaller than stock.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I saw a nice looking left side control on ebay for $16.99 shipped. Down side,it doesn't have a clutch perch. I havent found a reasonably priced right hand control yet. I'm talking about aftermarket,of course. I'm 99% sure I have a spare right hand control, complete,if you need to go that route. I havent tested the electrical bits, but I can if you are interested.

The electrical bits in these switches are pretty easy to clean and "restore". A little work with a nail fine and fine fine sand paper will clean up all but the worst of them.
The darn fool didn't know it couldn't be done...so he went ahead and did it anyway.

I don't think he has any internal switch to rebuild on the right side.
