Bars are scratch built.  Front end is an 07 GSXR 750. Way more info in the builds area.

How did you get the seat to fit? I thought the hinges were on the opposite side?

thanks

We (my dad and I) bought a 77/78 SS parts bike with no title.  We got the tank from it then we measured a few hundred times it felt like.  We then cut the hinges and seat lock off the SS parts bike and welded them on the k3 frame.  Everything lines up perfect.  For the tank the k3 frame needed no modifications, only thing needed was the rubber at the back of the tank where is meets up with the seat.  The original rubber piece wouldn't work so we used a SS one.

its not terribly hard to fit the F seat on a K, my father in law has done it to his KO without doing any modification to the K frame so he can switch it back.  He has the seat/cowl and also the seat rail

We got the seat off ebay and it wasn't until we got it and tried mounting it that we realized it wasn't going to be a simple bolt on project. Not only hinging from the opposite side but it wouldn't fit right with the original K tank either. I was able to pick up a trashed 77F as well as a 77F gas tank, did a bunch of double/triple measuring to make sure all would work, removed seat hinges (there's not much of a weld so removing them wasn't a big deal), tacked everything in place and mocked it all up to insure everything fit before final welding the hinges and latch. We needed the hinge mounts from the 77F frame because not only did it open from the opposite side but the hing itself was different. The only other thing I had to do was lengthen the tail of the frame were the grab bar mounts a few inches to accommodate the SS grab bar mount and as my son noted we needed the rear rubber tank mount for a 77F as well. For all you purists out there the original K seat hinges have been saved and any mods I did to frame can easily be changed back to original in case my kid ever wants it that way.

I'll have to get over there and look at it again, but i think he used the stock F hinges and made new brackets that he bolted to the K frame, but i'm not for sure.  He used the stock K0 wrinkle tank though i do know.

with as many submissions as we are getting, maybe there should be 3 or 4 months that are tribute months, say to stockers/cafes/chops/etc...

or, this could be something that is done on all the pages to deal with the number of submissions and also deal with the print size vs. viewing size predicament.

something like this

Nab a pic of it while you're at it because I'd like to see how he got it to work with the early K tank. Maybe there's a diff between the K0 and K3 tank but our K3 tank was a bit shorter than the 77F tank and with the F seat mounted properly there was a gap between the seat and tank. Could've moved the seat forward to meet it but it didn't look right plus I would've had issues with the seat lock and oil tank if we did.

Just a technical question: the blurred background has been photoshopped, hasn't it? Otherwise, the hand rail should be in focus, as only the bike is in focus in the picture.

-cool shot IMO-

You can control depth of field (focus range) by the F stop (aperture) settings on the camera.  It's the F stop that has the effect....the lower the F stop the narrower the focus range.  This also allows a faster shutter speed.  The higher the F stop the wider the focus range and the slower the shutter speed.  It's basic photo 101 to learn how to use these two to get the effect you want but with the advent of fully automatic cameras these days it seems to be a lost art.  Don't let the camera make all the decisions for you....most people should be able to hold a camera steady down to 1/30 sec shutter speed so by using the full range of shutter speeds you can pick the aperture that keeps the depth of field where you want it.  The auto focus can also be a pain as you have to know what to focus on to get the depth of field where you want it.  I am guessing that photo was shot at a wide aperture..if it had been at F16 or 22 and focused at the proper point everything would have been in focus.  You can also use it to make the background out of focus too...it just depends on the look you want.
