Keyless Ignition
« on: July 17, 2012, 02:20:51 PM »
Is there anybody here that has made or used a keyless ignition on their dinosaur? Kinda like Nissan cars? Fob in your pocket and push a button?

I found one online but it was quite $$$, 350ish? And included a "security system".

I wondered if maybe Hondaman wanted to make one to go with his ignition.

I've done it before and just happened to wire one up last night on my cb750 project. Costs like 50 bucks total.

There's a thread on customfighters.com with the info you'll need under lighting and electrical.

I did it using The Motogadget M - lock. You need to pass the fob over the sensor, which can be hidden.

If youre kinda handy with wiring its pretty simple.  Youll need to buy:

611t solid state relay
1 12v relay
RFID kit from ebay(I got 4 for like 25 bucks)

You swipe the keyfob.  Its sensed by the RFID receiver which then pulses 12v down a signal wire.  Its too weak to activate a standard relay.  You take this 12 positive pulse and send it into the 611t latching solid state relay.  This then depending on how you have it programmed can do lots of things.  It takes that pulsed weak signal and latches on.  I then take that 12v positive and use it to switch a heavy duty 12v relay which will then power whatever you want.  In my case it sends power to a fuse block and out to the rest of the bike.  In my case if you swipe a second time it will take that second pulse and latch off, cutting current to the relay which then opens and turns off the power to the fuse block.  Its pretty fun and costs almost nothing to do.

This doesnt actually start the bike(though it could if you wired it that way).  Think of it as turning your key to the "on" position.  From there you can kick it, push it, hit your starter button or whatever floats your boat.

That is true.  I wired a waterproof toggle in line with the RFID reader to keep the parasitic drain away from the battery when the bike is parked for a few weeks.  I should have mentioned that too. Thanks.  Master disconnect/storage switch.

And so you guys can get a laugh:  I wanted to test fire it before I started wiring it for real.

Thanks a ton! How close do you have to swipe the fob to the receiver?
