Help! White wire part of ground circuit?
« on: July 22, 2012, 07:56:08 AM »
I bought a new harness for my K5.  I was checking the ground circuit and found that the white wire going to the regulator is in the ground circuit.  Is this correct?

I checked this on the old harness and the same white wire is not a part of the ground circuit. ???

I've been having a bunch of electrical problems with this new harness... could this be a cause?

There were a lot of changes through out the years I'm not to sure about the K5 .But I don't think it should be it goes from White- Field Coil Supply to (Field Coil-Voltage Regulator) and green is the ground Maybe a K5 guy can chime in. Can you see just where it ties into the grd.?

I haven't torn into the harness and don't want to unless I know for sure it's wired incorrectly.

The white wire goes to one end of the field coil, and the other end of the coil is connected to ground. With the white wire disconnected from the regulator, you should read about 7 ohms of resistance between the white wire and chassis ground.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Honda have never used white as a ground wire.
It will ground after going through some other component (field coil in this case)

Thanks for the responses!

The white wire shows it's grounded with the harness completely disconnected.  I guess I have to tear into it. >:(

Ugh... The harness wasn't completely disconnected.

Now it's fine. This is a lesson in making sure I double check before I post!
