dave....it runs poorly though. it gets lurchy when i accel, which im not fond of on corners. if i blip the throttle it hangs on the highr rev for seconds. i dont want to melt my block or be all surgy. the only difference between then and rebuilt is the edited exhaust....

i could be waaay off base because my bike is a completely different beast but...lurchy, hanging idle and being lean are indications of a vacuum leak. i'm dealing with that very issue right now. i have 4 insulators that connect the carbs to the head. on a 30+ year old bike these get hardened by the heat and crack. i looked at the parts fiche for your bike and you do have insulators for your carbs.

people check for vacuum leaks with starting fluid or propane. look for the revs to increase when you find a leak. of course, you may know all of this already or it could be irrelevent info, but i thought i'd throw it out there anyway. you did do a rebuild so i suppose the carbs came on and off and maybe aren't sealing correctly...?

Is it a problem one pipe being shorter than the other....its definitly my 1 and 2 side, i thinks its 2......that pipe is a good 4 inch shorter......plus the baffles are new. My 3 4 pipe sounds perfect, i can hear and feel 1 2 skip and pop

Pulled num 1 plug cap off and it didnt change a damn thing....so i clipped it back and reseated...im getting a tiny red spark of a plug on it. Also, 2,3 points has blue spark all over the points when running, not so for 1,4.....,pulled num 4 it wouldnt run....

Swap your 1 and 4 caps and see if it reverses that symptom. Better yet, throw a meter on 'em.
