I think it's the same every where, we just had a father and son grabbed for a cold case murder and when the  cops went to their house to check for evidence they found what was eventually 80 bombs (pipe bombs, etc) and in "Toronto the good area" a block party 2 people killed and 20 plus wounded. I begin to think there has to be a new way of treating the instigators of such things I don't know what, but maybe some thing that will let them feel the pain of their actions.

Ps I'm talking about Canada and I'm sure that all the different countries that this forum serves/reaches could come up with similar tales of stupidity and evil. Again Bill the demon.

Bill,

I don't think any form of punishment will deter these people. They are clearly gone and punishment is not something they care about.  I honestly think that most of them want to be killed in a blaze of glory or something. It makes me sick to think about it.

GbGhia  I don't mean execute them I mean that they suffer for years and I mean that the world knows about it so that the idiots that come after them can say to themselves I'd really better not get caught because me wandering around snivelling and whining is not heroic and I also think that the various cinema companies in the world help to contribute to this feeling of 15 minutes of fame when the protagonists are not heroes just #$%*s and who wants to watch or care about #$%*s any way. Sorry, I'm ranting, probably showing my age. #$%* it I hate stupidity and I am living in a stupid age.

once again the perp had body armor and a helmet.  calls for close action from outside peripheral vision.  A gun touching the guy when fired is what i believe is best. Do not do anything except shoot him  because we are way pass the freeze stage. Never go anywhere unless armed for this very reason.  I started after the luby's shooting in Kileen TX

Heading for the airport gestapos now. Looks like we'll have to do the airport thing at the theatre. I don't think any of our active members are in Aurora.

Guys I don't want to crank up the gun versus no gun debate I still think that the people that do things like this for whatever reason get some sort of gratification from these acts and that has to be taken away from them, also they should be made to feel as much pain and shame as possible and that others who are inclined that way are aware of the punishment whether this is a special TV channel that broadcasts world wide or something else, the cachet must be removed from these monstrous acts before they'll stop.

Unfortunatley, that is where the root of the problem is. Like it or not.

Um, maybe I am totally stupid and all but what the hell does politics have to do with some nutjob in a bulletproof vest and riot helmet spraying a movie theater with bullets and tactical mace?

That's right. Whether a wacko is a lefty or righty is a flip of the coin. A wacko is a wacko, they are wired wrong. They don't respond to rational deterrence or punishment. Often they enjoy punishment. Subconsciously they want to go to jail to relieve them of the responsibility of living a proper life.  It can come from various things, but its nearly impossible to correct.

Pretty stupid post.  How many more people would have been shot by some citizen or citizens carrying guns who are not trained or skilled in using a weapon in a dark, crowded atmosphere that requires split second decision making?  I don't care how skilled you are in your own mind, unless you have police or the specific military training you do not have the skill or judgement to use a weapon in that environment.

another leftie comes out of the wood work... All it would have taken would have been one guy with just a little training and shooting experience. If some one else got hit the military calls it collateral damage... again, how many got hit ?

Eddie my point is if the idiot "dies in blaze of gunfire" they've won, if they die of their balls turning green and falling off and the world knows about it the next will pause before they do some thing like it, because who wants the entire world to know what a terrible #$%* up you are and then pisses on you. I guess what I'm saying is death is too quick for them.

That's only true if they are reasonably sane. And that judgement is a matter of degree. Most criminals are still holding on to sanity and will respond to deterrence, again, in degrees.

A true wacko cares not a whit about shame or deterrence. I'm confidant those responders with experience and who study the field can make those calls.

Our only recourse is to remove them quickly, and permanently, from the environment.

There was a good study today on our radio about the political bent of 20 or so recent such events. It was split pretty evenly into thirds, left right and none.

Yeah in your own mind you're Dirty Harry but it's just more fantasy on your part.  Since you don't have to show police or military training to get a carry permit the more likely scenario would be to have one or several people with dubious skills shooting it out.  It's dark, crowded, smoke bombs had gone off.  Maybe that guy is a second shooter...bam.....oops..... no, he was just another citizen shooting at  the real shooter.  People are screaming, running around, someone jumps up right into your line of fire as you are pulling the trigger and you blow off the back of their head.  At least you meant well.  Sorry, your short course in gun safety to get your permit didn't prepare you for this.  If any citizen caused, as you put it so callously, "collateral damage" they could be up on manslaughter charges.

Eddie, Colorado has conceal and carry laws.  Most people even in states that allow it have no desire to carry a gun. I would not go anywhere if I felt like I had to carry a gun to protect myself.

The day I feel like I have to pack a gun when I leave the house is the day I move to another country.
