750F1 seat cover
« on: October 13, 2012, 07:31:00 AM »
Well, my original seat cover finally split. It's only been on there since 76, has anyone found a quality reproduction for a 750F? I'd like to find a heat seamed original type.

I had done allot of research Don and had decided on this once (http://www.ebay.com/itm/CB750F-seat-cover-for-Honda-CB750-F-SUPER-SPORT-1975-78-229A-/160702898688?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item256aa3a200&vxp=mtr) from eBay.  A month or so back I saw were someone here on the Forum was doing a comparison and thought this one was not as good.  Use the search function and I'm sure you will find it.

I talked to a local motorcycle seat builder here in Phx who built a custom seat for my Goldwing which I LOVE and he said he could match the original for probably less or about the same as the eBay seat.  He would also put in some denser foam for my fat ass!

The eBay cover has the heat pressed rolls while I think my local builder would have to sew in the rolls.  Also for I think $10 the guy on eBay will stencil HONDA on the back of the cover.

I put a cover on my bike like to one RShaefer linked to.
It is very good quality and looks great.
One down side is that it is sewn, not like the original.  So on rainy days the seat gets wet (even with the plastic sheet between the cover and foam) and takes a while to dry.

Other than that it is excellent.
I have thought about how to seal the thread holes but have not tried anything yet.

Relative to sealing the holes I have heard that candle wax works.  Best would be to have rubbed the candle wax over the seams prior to putting the cover on and then on the external seat side as well.  You can reapply the candle wax on the topside of the seat from time-to-time.

Thanks, it looks like a nice one. I was hoping someone had found a stash of original heat seamed covers but it will do nicely.  I noticed thin white lines showing in the seams on mine. I babied it all year trying to keep it out of the sun but alas, it finally gave way. I like the look of the corbin gunfighter seat, but it seems my dragster keeps up using all of the bike money.

David Silver Spares sells a cover that is very close to the original:

I bought one but haven't installed it yet.  It has the molded "fake" threading like the original.  It's not identical, but it's very close, and the closest match I could find.

They also sell the whole replacement seat:

I've used one of these to replace a split cover as well. Top notch quality. I didn't do it but would strongly suggest adding the 1/2" foam to the top of your seat foam as the instructions suggest too. It looks a little too "loose" without it.
