Why am I getting these spots on the upper forks?
« on: July 21, 2012, 05:12:03 PM »
I get these lil spots only on the upper forks between the light clamp and the triple.  Why?  What is causing it?  If I rub with t shirt it comes off bit it's only on this area.

Maybe something has a slow leak and the wind is splashing it there.  Check that banjo and anything else in the area

Same on both sides ? Almost looks like a light surface rust. Are the spots wet or dry. Maybe some car wax if its a little flash rust.

Maybe follow the recommendation, wax the tubes, and you won't get those rust spots.

Bugs eat chrome and cause rust, keep a little wax on them.

Water is accumulating elsewhere and getting rust colored from the rust formation that is occurring in the area in which it is gathering.  Then when riding, wind is blowing it out of its hiding place and leaving those spots where it hits and dries.

What bike? on a lot of years the portion of forktube that the seal does not ride on is not plated, then they will rust.

Dont like the wax idea, use grease or paint...

Upper fork tubes are notorious for rusting. Anybody who has removed their forks or headlight ears has seen that mess underneath.
