G&L Choppers
« on: July 21, 2012, 09:12:53 PM »
Hey guys,
I'm looking for info on G&L Choppers.

If you haven't heard already…
Richard Ford of "G&L Choppers" operates out of Colorado Springs.

He's had my bike and $4,000 for well over (2) years now and refuses to answer any calls or emails.

I've been pretty patient so far but I need to know what's going on.

If anybody's in the area and can just ride by the shop, or if anyone has any info at all on G&L, I'd definitely appreciate it.

Really, I'd just like to know if the shop is even still around!?

Please shoot me a message on here or email me.

Thanks.

Don,

I'm in FL right now but heading home Tuesday. I think I know where the shop is/was but am not familiar with them. I'll see if I can do a drive by Wed before heading back on the road. Tell me a little about your ride. If they are still going I'll go inside.

Wow Jerry,
That would be great man.
I'd seriously appreciate anything you could do.

The bike is a 70's Yamaha XS650… mainly what they work on.

If you get a chance to ride by and just let me know if the shop is even still around, I'd really appreciate it.
I'm definitely considering flying out there… just don't want to show up to an empty building.

Thanks again for even considering it.

Just to add some info here ,, If this company has turned sour on you , get the word out on Ft. Carson to as many soilders/military as possible!!! We had a bad situation happen in Jacksonville,NC (Camp Lejeune USMC) A company called Chopperhead Road Choppers, built customs from ground up. A Marine paid 10K deposit to have bike built while he was deployed to the sandbox. He (the marine) was in constant contact and always got a line , it's in work , frames built, wheels are on . Whe he returned he went to pick up his NEW bike and was told someone come in and wanted to buy it so the co. sold it and now have to start over. The Marine said NO, you're going to give me back my deposit of course the Co. didn't want to do that (cause they didn't have the money. The Marine had to sue and won!!!

Thanks guys, I really do appreciate the support.

Crazy story about the marine too… It sucks that he had to actually sue but at least he won.
Ironically, from what I heard, Rich is an ex-military guy himself.

Not sure how I'd get the word out but If he never comes through then maybe these forums will help spread the word and hopefully my experience will serve as a warning to others.

Yeah, the website is still up, although it hasn't been updated since 09'. ??

Is it just naive to still be hopeful at this point? I've been avoiding flying out there and contacting the BBB, just been thinking "any day now…" but how long do you wait before actually giving up.

Thanks again.

Wait til Thursday anyway  ;)  Got you on my list of running to do tomorrow/Thursday. Are they BBB accredited/member? If so do NOT hesitate to contact the BBB! If not accredited/member it really won't help you.

That appears to be a good phone number. Just got their machine.

I sent you a PM. Check that and get me some info before I head that way.

Two YEARS? Dude you have the patience of a saint! Especially in view of the fact that he won't respond to your calls and emails. It's your call but I would have been on him like stink after a couple months.  Good luck!

3425 Van Teylingen is now Summit Automotive (?). Rode by but didn't stop as the skies were looking ominous and some serious drops were beginning to fall. I do remember seeing a custom bike shop there in the past but never stopped in. The phone number got me an answering machine last night for G&L though. Check with DORA (Dept of Reg Agencies) in Colorado and the Secretary of State too for listings for G&L. Maybe you can file a fraud complaint with Colorado Springs Police. Maybe this guy is operating out of his garage or a small shop in another location and you can still get to him. Time to bring down the hammer and make him sweat a little.

Jerry, how about leaving a message that you are interested in their battery box, or one of the other small parts they offer? See if they take the bait?

I'll see what I can do when I'm back home. On the road working next 2 days. I have a Google Gmail phone number that doesn't ID me. Need to get back home and sort out my clutch issue! Gotta compare post lengths of pressure plates. Thinking that's my problem. A phone call shouldn't take long though  ;)

Reeaaally… Summit Auto huh?!
Now, I'm getting worried.

Well, I guess I've got some more calls to make but thanks again for the suggestions.
I really appreciate your efforts Jerry. Can't thank you enough man. It really sucks being 1,500 miles away!

I'm hardly a saint tortelvis but it's definitely been well over 2 years now.

Not a bad idea scottly. I might try a google number too but from what I've heard, they're not answering calls from anybody lately.

And I couldn't find any results for a "brimmer," haha but I think I like the sound of it.
I can't wait to get some freakin' answers!

I really appreciate having you guys in my corner.
Thanks again.

I'll try to remember to give them a call tomorrow; my AZ caller ID might be safer to them than Jerry's local #, if they are running a scam.

Update:
Well, I've heard recently from (5) different local Colorado guys, that the G&L shop isn't even around anymore but actually just got a new message today from somebody else, that claims it's definitely still there, up & running.

I'm not sure what to believe but…… after 2+ years of waiting and still no response from Rich… I reluctantly filed a complaint today with the BBB.

Hopefully, now maybe I'll at least get a phone call from him and we can figure this all out.
It sucks that it had to come to this.

And so the wait continues…

maybe same shop with a new name or people?, a friend in townsville sold a nearly finished WLA to a guy who left it at a shop there to finish, the shop had closed up and his bike and others were all gone, the guy at the shop next door told him he was about the fifth guy coming around to check up on their bike.

That could definitely be the case Dave, only time will tell I guess.
I actually left another message with the DA out in Colorado... hoping to hear some news this week.
I just want to know where I stand.

Thanks again.

Well, kind of as a last ditch effort, I sent out an email last week to "The Horse" BackStreet Choppers Magazine. They featured G&L back in the July 09' issue… where I first saw them and I asked if they had any recent info regarding the shop.

Jordan Z., editor from The Horse, actually replied and told me that he phoned G&L himself to find out what's going on and miraculously, Rich immediately answered the call.

Supposedly, they spoke at length about where he's been, why he hasn't been building lately and also, about my bike in particular. Rich apparently stated that he's been nursing a shoulder injury but that he's actually working on my bike "right now."

Jordan said he mentioned that I was trying to get a hold of him, gave him my number and told him to give me a call asap to work things out.

I'm not sure if it'll do any good but it was pretty cool of Jordan to give him a call for me and to find out some more info. He seems like stand-up guy and I definitely appreciate the effort.

Still no word from Rich.

Maybe Jordan can get you an address?? I'd sure like to go by and provide sympathy about the "shoulder issue".

Isn't it amazing what caller ID can do to get a call answered or not!

Did you get that call yet?

Just another update to let everybody know that this is actually STILL going on!

We've been waiting for over 3 YEARS now for our bikes from G&L choppers and Richard Ford still refuses to accept our calls.

Others have been and still are, waiting much longer.

I actually said in my last email, that he could just keep my bike if he'd just return my deposit and yet, still no response.

Again, multiple complaints have already been filed with the Colorado State Police Department and the Attorney General's office as well as, at least (4) different complaints with the Better Business Bureau, just in 2012 alone.

Beware of G&L Choppers and think twice before handing over your bikes to Rich Ford.

Give your hard earned cash to small businesses that actually deserve it.

Thanks.

Dude, my bike, $4k and 3yrs? You must have way more money than me. I would have tracked this guy down long ago and gotten my bike back and if not my cash would have taken 4 grand worth of his stuff or his hide. Stop waiting around and go get it! Do you have a title? If so, take it and the police and get your damn bike back!

If you have gone past the three year mark you may be too late to file a lawsuit against this terd to recover some of your money.
You should have filed a lawsuit by now and reported your bike as stolen and fed the police your information.
I would still look into doing these things if I were you, you are beyond the point of Mr. Nice guy, time to lawyer up and get tough.

Have you asked CSPD about filing a stolen vehicle report?

They have been working on Springs Transmission's case. He was 'accused' of ripping off customers and even selling some of their vehicles. If you talk with CSPD perhaps mmention that this reminds you about the Greg Ennis Springs Transmission case.
