Lets talk spark plugs.
« on: July 22, 2012, 02:35:18 PM »
This is for a 78 750K but I don't think that matters. I run NGK D8EA with NGK 5k ohm caps. Runs good no problems. Now the last set of plugs I got were NGK DR8EA. This slipped past me until I got home. So here is the question What would one expect to happen using resisters on both parts. I did it and did not notice any. Is it something that will happen over time? I have all ways thought the resistors were just for radio interference but would at some higher level might cause some running issues. What do you think? Would it do some thing to the level of spark or do some thing to the points over time? The bike is all stock.

Ohm's law says resistance in series is a sum of each.  Therefore you are indeed increasing the total resistance, this will reduce the amperage in the circuit.  theory aside, if you are not having operational problems such as weak spark, or heat buildup in the wires, you are probably fine.  Spark plugs are cheap, so why risk it?

Thing is Rigid in 78 the caps called for 10K ohms everyone I have spoke to says 5K is fine and that is all NGK sells in the caps. I'm not risking any thing just curious And the Canadian models used the R plugs and caps. I understand Ohm's law I need Honda's Law ;D

if the resistance of your new "R" plugs and the resistance of the 5 ohm caps = the same as the stock caps at ten ohms with no "R" at the plugs it = the same thing.( god i hope that made sense)
whats with the Canadians being different? emissions?
and good god i am going to go out on a limb here and try and to give you an answer on the point wear issue with these plugs. hard to answer when getting into as my avionics workmate calls it" the black art of coils", inductance, capacitance, etc.
if the output current draw is less..(to the plugs) the input current draw will be less..aka less arcing at the points.
this being with the resistor plugs and the opposite for the non resistor plugs. if i am wrong..someone please educate me!!
not being a smarty here but the hondaman ignition does illuminate this problem.yes?

If you want to sleep well and never regret the decision, buy Iridium plugs (7or8$ on ebay) and sleep well. I do it to all my bikes, and suggest this to everybody else. Very simple, yet effective mod.
