Orig. Footpeg Problem
« on: July 16, 2012, 12:33:58 PM »
Hey all!
I ride a cb 550 F (1975) and i want to go back to the original front footpegs. I was riding with raask footpegs so far.
The problem is that the left front peg (shifter side) is mounted by the lower engine mounting bolt through the frame.
If i loosen that bolt to install the left footpeg, the frame realeases a bit and the bolt + footpeg doesnt fit any more by just 2 or 3 millimeter. So there is no way to get the nut back on the bolt with the footpeg.
Is there any way to solve this problem without having to uninstall the exhaust system (4-1) to rope in the frame somehow?
I'm thankful for tips and tricks!
cheers

Unless someone has swapped that frame bolt for a different one, there should be enough length available. Maybe there is a spacer on the other side. or something?

There is def no spacer or anything on the other side, only that distance plate inbetween Motor and frame.
In my case there is only 1 nut to loosen, the other one is one with the bolt.
I will check if probably one preowner used a different bolt, maybe from 550K?
There should be normally enough space for the orig. footpeg and this bolt is damn short. Something must been wrong with it.
thanx

The preowner painted the frame. he might have swiched the upper engine mounting bolt with the lower one?!
Is the upper bolt a little longer? I only need 5mm more lengt to install the peg...
thanks,
Schuster

I am just finding out that these footpegs seem to be different than the ones on my 550k (working on a 550F now) I am looking for these pegs.

Ok, today i ordered a new bolt for my bike to check if it will work with this.
And i was lucky, cause there were only 3 original bolts left in stock! I really hope it will work, and will report after
i got it!

Problem solved!

the new org. bolt is longer than the old one and the footpeg is fitting nicely  ;) ;) ;)
so the preowner took a wrong bolt  >:(

cheers,
Schuster
