Oil tank mods on a k2?
« on: July 20, 2012, 09:25:07 PM »
Has anybody made, modded, or moved a 750k2 oil tank to another location or made a custom one with a lower profile? I'm looking to clean up the center by hiding the battery box (under a seat hump) and possibly a thinner profile oil tank where the battery box currently lives. My main issue is the oil lines as they seem to be very unique to the cb and I'm not sure how to mod those. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Here are some pics of the oiltank I built.  I welded mounting tabs onto the frame before I powder coated, but I could probably just as easily used frame clamps.  Since my original oil tank was in such good shape I bought the cheapest oiltank i could find on ebay to cut all the pieces i would need from it so I could use my original hoses.  My oiltank has all the internal workings (overflow, etc) as an oem tank but I like the look better.

Hopefully this helps with some ideas,
Michael

Have you run with that tank for very long???
It looks like it is kinda small for the 750.. You need close to 3 quarts for adequate flow and cooling.

I don't remember what it holds at the moment.  I remember when I did it though that I spent a lot of time researching the minimum volume I could get away with.  The tank holds more oil than what it look like though, due to the tank being built to wrap around the frame, which is difficult to see form the pictures.  I haven't had the bike out since I started the cafe project, working on getting the old exhaust spigots out at the moment.

Nice job!

That brake linkage is not going to rub on the hoses I hope.
You checked that?
